Does it ever end?

Guess you didn’t see post 18. If you have a needle hang open on a carb and an electric fuel pump it will hydraulic. Even if ever so slightly it will kick back the starter and try to break it. Hell it’s possible with a mechanical pump also if you had to crank it a while. What was the starting process like this time?

Mechanical pump with regulator set at 5.5psi
It didn't crank long started after initial kickback

Because of the long nose on the starter, the nose needs to be strong. Looking at the broken bits, it looks like the casting is quite thin. Yep, that'll do it...

Drive to Alb and you've got a free original boat anchor starter right here ready to go. Even has aftermarket heat shield fiberglass stuff!

Isn't "440 Source" an outfit which sells Chinese stuff at tuner prices? I just recall people on the ForCbodiesonly site complaining about several parts from them like an aluminum water pump. Not flaming them, just throwing out what I read. Most aftermarket parts come from the same or just a few factories, despite all the brands thrown on them. As example, there are maybe 3 car battery manufacturers supplying maybe 100 brands.
