Does your car have an oil service indicator?

-
i dont pay any attention to those oil change indicators. i still will change at 4000. like the old commercial says, you can pay me now or you can pay me later has always stuck in my head

I cant imagine anyone going past 10k saying " its ok, it didnt tell me to change my worn out oil in the 100 degree Texas weather".

My Charger has one and pop up between 7-8k depending on how it has been driven. My wife's Pathfinder also has one but it is one where you can set the interval for it to pop up. I can't imagine one going 30k before it shows up. Wow

In a Honda no less. I would take better care of a Ridgeline, But most people have more common sense...I would hope.

My dad bought a 2003 Toyota new, he believed in the sensor(he's not exactly mechanically inclined), it went 36,000 miles before that stupid light came on. However, some how that little corolla now has 478,000 miles on it( yes 478,000) and is still running strong, minus the AC which went out .as much as I hate imports, gotta give props to Toyota for that thing. (Hondas still are junk, as evidenced by 50% of them blowing up in the 500 today)

I have one in my '12 300C. It's a convenient reminder, but since I pay close attention to the mileage for when it's due for an oil change I don't really need it.

Its just a reminder, my wifes last car would tell you how much life was left depending on how hard you run it. 10% 20% etc.

You are seriously comparing race engines at Indy with production vehicles? LOL!

Honda production cars have a better longevity rep than Toyota.

I've used mine in my 2010 Camry since I bought it. Comes on every 8-10k. 167k doesn't leak it burn any. Every 3-4K is old school. Oil is more advanced than its ever been and with manufacturers extending warranties longer than ever they wouldn't allow it if it was costing them money. Hell, most new transmissions don't even have dip sticks or a way to service them.

I would trust a good synthetic for 8k. I just would not trust the tiny filters they use nowadays to 8k with the limited amount of filter media. I have always changed my filter 2/3 of the way through the oil change interval along with half a quart of fresh oil. buy 6 filters when they are on sale and its cheap insurance.

Fratz: have no wife, my sister blows up engines with regular silliness....Last time , I had an oil change, with "Sticky Lube".... They wanted 5-20 ..( a good semi synthetic oil...) ..i quoted " no... My factory notebook' ....." says otherwise".... I will lwve it, there.....

None of my stuff is new enough to have one of those lights.

Though my '84 D50 has (been removed/disconnected for years) a nifty little switch mounted to the side of the odometer, that after so many miles it would flip and turn on the "Check Engine" light (not the Service Engine Soon" light, the actual Check Engine light)

My f150 has something that tells the oil life percentage left. I didn't check it the last time I changed the oil but I still do it every 3-4K

No no no, I'm making fun of Honda period. The race problems are just an easy target lol

Got one on my daily driver HHR when it hits 30% life left, i change the oil. I kinda like them. If you beat on the car the percentage drops quickly, if you drive it easy the percentage drops slower. My wifes grand caravan just says change oil on the odometer when due. I like the setup in the HHR better i can scroll thru the menu and it tells me life percentage of oil, actual tire pressure of each tire, engine actual temp, ave mpg, instant mpg, and 2 trip odometers. Nice setup. I wish the caravan was like that. Oh well you cant have everything. With it being there, i use it. I have almost 100k on the HHR and its ecotec 2.2 still runs like a swiss watch.

my DD honda has the % meter for the oil and pops up a code when it needs service.. my car is mostly highway driven.. so far the code for an oil change and tire rotation has popped up every 10,000 miles. at 30k the code for an oil change, tire rotation and to replace cabin and engine air filters popped up.. works for me.. the car uses a semi synthetic oil..

jamies subaru the dealer said change it every 6,000 miles. not even sure if that car has a maintenance reminder..lol. i've never looked at the manual to see what subaru suggests but she is all stop and go so i'm fine with every 6,000 miles.. pretty sure that car gets full synthetic..

Honda engines are a bit more sophisticated than Toyotas IMO... I have a client with 550k on his 04 Acura TSX. Still has original engine and trany. He goes by the maintenance minder.

Just watched the video.
No way the maintence minder went 30k before it came on! If so it was broke.
I have been with Acura for 17 yrs and have NEVER seen a car go much beyond 10k before alerting.. Usually 5-7k....

10 k per change is fine,or go by the engine oil indicator.I would be the last one to question a Toyota or Honda engineer.

my car has two, yes, TWO different oil change interval indicators
one is called the odometer, the other is called a dipstick, you dipstick
:poke:

All this talk of oil change indicators, and both of mine were due. Changed the oil on the caravan, and the HHR today. Man those element cartridges are the bomb. And they are right on top of the engine too.

My 67 dart has an oil change indicator, when the lifters get noisy, time to change/add oil! ;)

What do you think about the Kevin harvick commercial about the synthetic oil you change once a year. And why is he 3 inches tall
