need to get the shifter knob off the automatic 75 dart sport i have,i remove the allen screw,go to lift up. it is being held on by something,i can get a bit of lift up but it feels like there is a spring holding it. anybody had this problem? tks doug

Is this the automatic shifter in the console?

If you're referring to a floor shifter, grab the black button and the woodgrain knob and turn counterclock wise at the same time. They should unscrew.

Oh, I forgot to mention to keep your thumb on the black button so when you get to the end of the threads the spring doesn't make the button go flying.

righto 6pac and make sure you dont break that tang on black insert or that button fill go boing and shoot off every time you shift

make sure you keep a finger on the button, mine hit me in the face, and almost lost the button
