This is a picture of my 69 Dart 340 car that I am trying to put a new set of Dougs headers on. It has power steering and 1 of the tubes is hitting the gear box, I need about 3/4 0f an inch more. Has anyone ran into this problem and what is the fix. Thanks, Todd

I had a similar problem with my 69 Dart and I had to loosen both motor mounts from below and "roll" the engine counterclockwise as you are looking at it from the front of the car. Hope this helps.

Dougs headers not fitting? That has to be impossible. I thought they fit perfect. Lol

Is the motor located correctly?

No, that's the idiot's comment and tti. I don't recall ever saying such a thing.

You may have to move or shim the engine a little to get it right. The manufacturing tolerances on these cars was pretty wide.

It feels like the engine and tranny need to move back an inch. I had to push the motor and tranny forward to get the motor mounts to set into the k member. I also could not get the fan and fan clutch to fit because I needed about another inch to get the clearance I needed. Could I have the wrong small block motor mounts or is there just one style? I would like to get it figured out before I take a hammer to a new set of headers. Thanks, Todd

Are your mounts shot? Get a set of new poly lock engine mounts from schumaker...They are about about 1/4" thicker as well..Those things really help...

The holes on your brackets where the rubber mounts insert should be to the front side of the bracket. If towards the rear, the engine will be moved forward.

These are drivers side brackets and show the holes should be located.

The brackets mount to the rear side of your engine ears...

I think the motor mounts are the problem. It looks like the holes in the mounts are toward the rear which is putting the engine to far forward. I took the motor mounts out here is a picture. Are these 318 motor mounts? Looks like I'm in the market for some new mounts.

Those are B/E body mounts!

That is your issue. This is also the reason the trans mount won't line up. The inability to get the fan/trans mount on was why I posted a pic of the motor mount brackets.

The biscuit mount holes should be closer to the other side of each bracket

Looks like it wasn't a header issue after all...
