Scored an 89 360 long block for $100 a few weeks ago, owner had it listed as a magnum 360 with LA heads, I went to check it out, turned out to be a 360 roller cam la with nice 308 heads on it. It is in good shape as well. I am planning on regasketing it and assembling it with parts I have to try in my Chrysler. I pulled the rear

main cap to replace the rear oil seal, and noticed this on the crank journal. Anyone seen this before?

No clue why it's there, but as long as there are no sharp edges, it will be fine.

Is there an oil feed hole somewhere in the journal? If there is, and the crank is drilled correctly, RUN THAT BEEOTCH.

It will be fine. I'd bet it ran many a mile like that. Won't hurt a thing.

I can see the evil demented machinist now. "It's Friday and I can't get off early. So I'm gonna eff with people. I KNOW!! I'll put an arbitrary drill mark where it doesn't belong, and see if people notice!!"

Congratulations..... you have a highly valuable crank with the rare and elusive 'oil reserve dimple' LOL. As said, not an issue as long as there is a real oil hole in the crank to the #1 rod journal.

It'll run noticeably cooler with the reserve capacity. Cheaper than a preluber too.

i just did some quick googleing and what I got out of it was that you have a pre magnum 360. Type in your block casting number and check it out

Oil holes for la heads, no magnum motor mount bosses cast into block, just the la mounts. They only made these for 4 years, 89-90-91-92 as tbi truck engines. I have one in my 89 dodge ram as well, I should try to get the casting #'s off of that one too.

It's an LA roller engine, just like you said.

The funny thing was the seller had a complete 360 magnum he was going to use for some build instead of this engine. He showed me an intake he was hoping to use on it and it was an LA sp2p. I told him it would not even bolt on, and that the sp2p was probably not the best choice for that magnum anyway. I am kicking myself for not buying the b&m 360 notched flexplate he had though, at the time I thought this engine was a magnum as well, so did not think I could use it.

Being a cast crank, I wonder if there may have been a small void at manufacture/casting and noticed at the machining stage where they touched it with a drill so that the edges of the void wouldn't possibly catch and destroy the bearing... just a thought

So this engine runs fantastic! Now that I know it is good I regret not putting a cam in it. Pulls to 4500 and slows down around 5k, thanks to the stock truck cam w/.410 lift. Took the wife out for supper, over an hour long trip and it was a pleasure in our Chrysler. LD4B intake(that had bad core shift) and the 308 heads were both gasket matched to fel-pro intake gaskets.

I've been getting more and more into those Cordobas recently, there's one I drive past all the time I stopped to check it out and it's pretty solid.

Definitely put a small aftermarket cam like a 262/268 Voodoo you'll get more torque everywhere, if you so please lol.

That cam does sound good to a big car.
I might get ambition to cam it over winter. Too many other projects going on as well. It is crazy how the prices on the Cordobas/chargers, Magnums, and Miradas have shot up in price in the last ten years, my 76 seems to look better every year, or maybe it's just me!

I did find a Magnum engine today with the oiling for LA heads machined in the block. Thought I would share as I was beginning to think it was a unicorn. A 94 casting date 360.
