Hey guys I just pulled the 7 1/4 out of my 65. How much am I taking off the DShaft for the 8 3/4 ? Small garage and I dont have a whole lot of room under the car to measure accuratly. I hear 2 inches should be fine but just checking.:read2:

Here you go. Looks like a reduction of 2.25 inches would do it

Ah,forgot you have the 4 speed,if you get stuck we could measure the length differences and subtract.

Not sure how this helps. I am talking about the need to shorten the drive shaft when switching from 7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end. Ah I get itThanks I was just looking at the chart scratching my head.

65Vart. the distance listed in the posted chart is correct. If you are staying with
your same trans( either manual or auto) you are just changing the distance of the
centerline of axle to the centerline of the yoke. 7 1/4 is 10.09, 8 3/4 is 12.35.
The difference is 2.24 or approx 2 1/4inches to shorten the driveshaft.

I did this swap a couple years ago and had 2.25 taken off mine- worked great!
