Drivetrain noise

I have a whining noise coming from the rear end of my car. It starts at about 20MPH & gets louder up to about 50MPH. Letting off the gas and coasting it goes away. Looks like a trip to the shop. It's a suregrip 8 3/4. Any ideas on what it might be?

i had a rear in my power wagon that did the same thing. it had been run dry.

Thanks for your reply. I had a leaking axle seal that was replaced recently. I wonder if the shop checked the fluid level in the rear end? I assumed they would have. Guess I better make sure. It would be nice if that's all it is.

Well, I didn't luck out. The fluid was full. Looks like a trip to the shop before it gets worse. Pay me now, or pay me more later....ughh.
