dual coils

hi i am looking to buy a 73 duster with a 71 340 engine . the questions i have are the car has two coils hooked up one is a dui pak that goes to distributer the other is a accel coil that goes to a skinny blue box i have no idea why , also the car has a 8 3/4 rear with 3.55 posi it was a 4 speed originaly it now has a beefed up 904 will this hold up. i have the 4 speed it still has the pedal in the car what else do i need to change trannys and are the drive shafts the same thanks jim
 
We need photos. Unless this was one of the old special (and horrid) ignitions from the '60's like the old "Ducoil" then what you have is what we used to call "an abortion."

The dist. caps on the left in these photos is for the old Ducoil distributor. They used dual points, each set firing one coil, and each coil wire went to the cap separately. A special rotor routed the spark to alternate cylinders

bigger coil on drivers side goes to cap smaller blue box on passenger side goes to accell coil does not go to cap at all
 
the only thing it might be is the car has an electronic digital tach in it .the other coil is behind the air cleaner and the coil wire goes to blue box
 
That's the old Jacobs piggyback ignition system. Don't know if they still make them. Heard they worked good but never ran one.
