I don't think the tire manufactures would approve what is done to those tires.
 
Interesting, which ones work? I have tried everything under the sun and stopped doing it about 5 years ago because nothing made a difference.
If can find some Formula V traction treatment it works well

No one I know treats the tires, just not effective. If it was, I would do it and there is no reason to hide it.

Just not effective huh..thats funny my car hooks much better on the track then on the street why??..cause' the track is treated with sticky compound!!

That's what you meant by treating the tires? Yes, for sure the traction compound and the rubber on the track help out traction............. You are the winner of the day!
 
I have run my car at a no prep race. It was fun and funny all at the same time!

The FAST class cars are hooking due to suspension setup / weight distribution/ cam grinds that push the power into higher rpms and softer low ends / timing tricks / tire shaving and many tricks I haven’t even thought of .
Pretty impressive builds!

I was standing at starting line when they ran at Cecil County. Yes track officials sprayed the track down with sticky stuff. Track was continuously cleaned too. When officials saw FAST cars about to stage looked like they sprayed a bit more sticky stuff on track from what I saw.....
 
Absolutely, track prep is utterly essential! Can’t do it without it. Applying anything to the tire directly? No.
 
I've walked thru that stuff, it pulled my shoes right off. Very sticky.
 
I once did a dry hop afert my brnout and quickly realized it wasn’t my tires smoking ! Tires glued themselves to the track and my clutch was cooking …. Urgh
 
The thinking game is what keeps me interested in the class. I'm constantly trying to improve the car or engine in some way. The ideas are getting harder to come by, and I am not sure how much more I can get out of the combo without stretching or disregarding the rules and intent of the class as some have been doing recently.

We built a 71 because of the intake and carb for sure. Whether it is the ultimate setup, I don't know. Quickest stock eliminator to my knowledge is a 70, and they don't even have to worry about the exhaust manifolds.
I’ve always been curious what would be the best combo with a similar to FAST spirit. As in I have a 72. Run 68-70 manifolds. Then whatever year has best intake, whatever year has best carb, etc.. It’s not all year correct but is factory stuff and to the undiscerning, not noticeable. Of course not FAST legal, but that’s something I’d be interested in finding out and doing someday. I would think 72+ would be good for the intake and carb due to higher rise but I’m no expert. Congrats again on the new record. Making us Mopar guys proud to see
 
That's a rabbit hole you can spend a ton of time in. 71 has its advantages but also disadvantages. Good carb and intake, but bad exhaust manifolds. Grille has to be sharkstooth which is heavy, dash has to be Rallye which is heavy..

Makes sense. Lots of considerations. I’ll just enjoy watching FAST from afar. Keep up the good work.

Man when the weight of the grill matters you are right on the edge.
 
My assumption is that it’s not just max HP that counts . Its power delivery that will not blow the tires off but pulls hard into higher rpms . 115 LSAs , high compression, trick timing curves etc…. Then you need to tune the suspension to maximize traction. But because you are limited to what was available on the cars when new ( Tire size , carb size , manifold flow ,potential head flow , weight, tire size ….) you must choose a model the has a great balance of all the above .
Corvettes and ZL1 Camaros work because the factory produced 3 cars with all the right stuff ! Lol
 
It's all a balancing act of everything. Dumbing down the torque and trying to hold on to the power as high as possible. Getting it to set the tires without hitting them too hard, converter, pinion angle, instant center, all are big. I'm in the stone ages with ignition and timing curves, I just use springs in the distributor to delay timing.

I agree with you with the vettes, they took a killer package and then tweaked the rules so the only limiting factor left is the tires. No one is going to catch up.
