Duster Rear Window Louvers

-
I'm with you, I like the black.. Is there anyone here who would like to takle the metal side of these mock-ups?????? I was emailing Leanna last night and she said as long as the metal isn't real thin and cleaned up smooth, wether it would be aluminum or steel it would powder-coat nicely!.. I could see 73AbodEE's style done in a nice satin or flat black powder-coat and look really sharp on all of our cars..
19..

Has anybody trie calling Willpak industries for info they still offer custom ordered louvers for 70-74 challengers and some older road runners and chargers and stranger still omni/colt louvers ? they make for a lot of different cars maybe they got a mopar guy there who knows which windows are close in shape to ours like maybe a craparo or a nova , I would love a set for my fastback barracuda
i found you some pics and as DarTT said this car belongs to Racekilla

Racekilla made a set for his Barracuda
thanks for telling us its ok to show off his barracuda lol

yeah I searched it out earlier when he first posted and found those pics , they look like a real good start a little reshaping on the tips and a softer bend on the ends to allow them to sit a little closer to the glass and bobs your uncle ,you guys are making me want to get some hard card and a glue gun out ,have to go to the hobby shop I guess lol

they look nice, thats a lot of glass to work with , and definately time consuming. a little fine tuning and they would look as though they came from the factory

i do like the black better
nice job on the mock-up, man

I think the black goes better with your black c-stripe. If you didn't have the blackout going on, the body color might look better than the black.

Or might not :dontknow:

trying to picture them body color on a duster without the blackout treatment is almost one of those things youd just have to see. do all duster and dart sport rear windows pop out? or ? did some have regulators and roll down? because with the pop out windows, you could actually have louvers that could clip on and stay secure with the windows pulled in, so that you could take them on and off ,instead of sticking them on with double sided tape. hell, you could have 2 pair, a black set and a body color set, that could be switched out, just to keep it interesting.

Now that we know what kind of look we want (for the side windows) who do we need to employ someones skills? Or is it possible to get a repop manufacturer to look at our templates and see if they would consider it?? Sounds like a long shot with re-pops but, companies are not as busy as they used to be... Don't believe me check out prices, prices go up when market share goes down, or the market as a whole (they still have to make their margins). So if anyones "hungry enough" this might be a nice project for them to take on. Of course I guess we still got to get out the cardboard and glue guns for the rear window.. LOL...

Leanna "Your The Best"! (Of course we all know that your the best ....) Keep us informed.. As for the rest of us maybe we can tackle the rear window? What'dya say everyone..(who's interested") Grab your card board, Glue Gun, Masking tape, Ruler, and anything else ya need... And have at it.

like you said, there may not be enough money making margins for a re pop company , but maybe one of the little guys has a some time on their hands??? hopefully Leanna may be able to get someone interested. a mock up for the rear glass could be a little more of a challenge. i do have a charger carpet box that i can cut up lol

i wonder what they would look like body color.....hhmmmm.....not an exact color match, but you get the idea.. thats crazy how the angles and shadows make it look sunk in. if it had nice smooth rounded corners it would look much better

Now that is very cool, great job!!!!

Slim... That would be HOT on your car, Blue or Black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leanna,
If your person is a metal worker, making a jig to hold the frame in place (the outer outline of the window) should be no issue. Making the slats might be a tad challenging but, as I said if your person is a metal worker it really ought to be straight forward and fairly easy. Setting the window slats in pins or some other kind of holding device at the right angles for alignment with minimal welding, they could crank a few these side window units out pretty quick.. Then if they came direct to you, you could offer them up to anyone in a powder coated choice or offer them up plain to be painted to match the car.. Diversification for your business.. (sorry that's the business side of me coming out I refer to it as passion..) LOL!!!!!!!!!

and just to add, the actual window (side windows) can be used as an initial jig because they dont roll down and they only tuck in the front about a 1/2 inch. they are actually a really small window, and these things wouldnt cost more than 10-12 bucks to ship. there is really nothing to them. just a thought lol (push...push...hint...hint..) :help:

Hey thanks for the compliments on louver on my barracuda... In those pics they needed to be cut and shaped some more.. As for the side window louvers i love the idea. fiberglass mold would be the way to go.. saw the guys from muscle car on spike remake scoops for a mustang that way.

as you can tell i like louvers

thanks for the pics Racerkilla do you make them or is someone doing it for you ? back in the day {70s and early 80s } they used to sell do it your self kits for the rear windows ,you just cut each slat to length and added the bent tips but I'm thinking of framing the sides and bottom of the glass , flat on the bottom 90*angle on the sides to tie the slats to ,some sort of support stringer leading to each of the top mount points / hinges? from the bottom flat piece ,I'm still trying to figure out how to secure the bottom maybe tuck it inunder the stainless , I want the stainless perimeter molding to show .

PS Leanna whats the minimum gauge metal we can use for this if we want them powder coated ?

the louvers on the white amx are factory, black amx has aftermarket ones from way back when, The vega i used side louvers from amx and a rear louver froma datsun 280 and made them work, and roadrunner was an aftermarket piece from late 70's.

To attach the bottom you could make a clip that goes under the trim. My amx has 4 metal tabs.. say 1x2 that have a metal stud up into the louver with a nut. The tab is pushed under the trim. For extra insurance I used clear rtv on the bottom of the tabs and clipped them as well.

:D that looks awesome 95, i gotta have it, like yesterday ! great job on the photo chop ! the more i look, the more i like

This Thread.. is SMOK'IN............... Who would of thunk to cut and paste just for the look.. that is so cool.. Obviously there are more people interested in this than first thought..

i love that 70s look with all the factory scoops, spoilers, RWL tires , rallyes with trim rings, hood pins, dual body color sport mirrors , all the factory blackout treatments and stripe options and CID callouts, badges , factory hood tachs, buckets, consoles, high impact colors, tuff wheels, four speeds, chrome exhaust tips and the only way it could get any better ,would be LOUVERS. ya, im old school, thats why i love this stuff....i cant stop looking at the petty blue sport with the black louvers, that thing looks sick. im going to have to make some cardboard rear louvers for mine
