[WANTED] Early A body Car

I did find one right here in NY State. I am highly interested in it.

I would check some of the hard to replace items such as the torsion bars, and the front sway bar. If you know what an early A body sway bar looks like, that would be a pretty big giveaway, as they’re not easy to find, and not often installed to try to pass off as a real S car. Torsion bars too, and of course the “31” must be there, that is the 4bbl motor designation.

you can’t, but you can check a few things.....it should have a “31” under the “ab” on the fender tag, it should have the .870 diameter torsion bars, it should have a sway bar in the front, it should have an extra leaf in the passenger leaf spring, it should have 14x5.5” wheels, it should have a crescent moon shaped cutout in the fold down panel between the trunk and the rear package area, on the trunk side of the panel, it should have a rectangular shaped cutout for the exhaust tip on the drivers side of the rear valance. It should also have all of the correct dress up package components on the motor, which should be a 273, and stamped with an “A” on the front of the block, just under the drivers side cylinder head, and the smaller 550 CFM Carter Carb with the 4 11/16” inch throat where the air cleaner sits. And of course some Formula S emblems. If it has a tach, that is an option usually chosen for the Formula S cars, although not standard equipment, and if it’s a 4 speed should have either a SG 7 1/4” rear, which would be standard equipment, or the optional 8 3/4”. That’s about all I can think of that would convince me.

With all due respect regarding 65 Barracuda S cars:
The 322 sales code option for the S package includes the tachometer as printed on the window sticker. The tachometer could be optioned on any 8 cylinder car (sale code 468), but was standard equipment with the S package.
SG (Sure-Grip) was an extra cost option with any engine or transmission choice or package choice, and true for either the 7 1/4" or 8 3/4" rear end. So far as I know, the only time Sure-Grip was a "mandatory option" was a 4 speed Hemi or 440 Magnum car with the required 9 3/4" Dana rear.
The only way I know to identify a factory Formula S package on a 1965 Barracuda is if the number "2" is stamped beneath the large letter "C" on the fender tag. And strangely enough, I haven't found the S package (again sales code 322) denoted on a 1965 build sheet. But all of the "S" performance components, such as the tachometer are on the build sheet.

Thank you, I am asking for a picture of the fender tag and have not received a response from the seller.

If I could find another red 64 Dart GT Hardtop that has all of the paint already done, I could use all of the parts from my total loss car. With that being said, I would like to find a V-8 car this time around.

thanks for chiming in Biggs, I was in the ball park, but didn’t come near a home run. I did hear that about mid year 65, the 7 1/4” rear in a 4 speed car was automatically a SG due to the high rate of warranty replacements they were receiving. And that the 8 3/4” was offered as an option in late 65, again for this reason.

Thank you, that is a fair asking price. I do want a V8 car this time around. I am sure you will sell it fairly quickly. A little bit of hard work and that car would start to sparkle.

I believe the insurance claim should be all done sometime next week. I am looking over two cars that I may make an offer on. But, they are not a 1964 Dodge Dart GT which is not an issue for me. However, my 2 copilots 8 and 12 are still expressing their sadness at losing the car. And, have even expressed their desire to have the car repaired, or finding another 64 Dart GT Hardtop. I know I am the one to make the decision, but my boys are challenging me. The classic car adjuster estimated the car repair for $1000 less than what I have an agreed value amount with my insurer. I could add 3K from my wallet and find a car already done. Decisions Decisions Decisions.

Thank you, I have two commando engines. Just installed one with a four speed into my 64 and I have a 66 commando I may put in this car with auto on the floor. If someone is interested I will offer the 273 or a split exhaust and offenhauser with twin webbers.

I found a gold 1964 Dart GT for sale. I have had many auto enthusiasts over the years mention that the Gold Dart GT's were a special color for the Dodge anniversary. Is this true or just a wrong interpretation?

The gold anniversary is 50 years and 64 was Dodge's Golden Anniversary. There were a lot of gold cars produced in 64. I can't tell if it was a special model but I remember seeing a horn button with Golden Anniversary or the like on it. Hey, look what I found. 1964 DODGE Dart GT 50th Anniversary Edition 273 V8 Auto, Mopar for sale, Muscle Cars, Collector, Antique, and Vintage Cars, Street Rods, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, and Trucks for sale by KC Classic Auto in Heartland, Midwest, Kansas City, Classic and Muscle Car Dealer, Museum and Storage

It really caught my eye. I do love the slant 6 cars, but I think I am going to try and find a V-8 car this time around. I am willing to spend a year looking for the right car. I saw a black 65 convertible in this forum that sold 3 years ago that I really liked. I have never owned a convertible car before and wonder if it would require a lot of maintenance to keep the interior water free.

My car is gone, my 13 year old son was in tears. I was going to give him the car after he graduated from college. We will be looking for something. We prefer the 63-66 A body cars. The chances that we would find another red 64 Dart GT hardtop are probably slim. I do not like to do body work myself therefore, I prefer that part of the car to be complete. I am looking for something closer to being finished. I like the Darts and Barracudas the most. I have not settled with the insurance company yet. Therefore, I cannot make a firm deal right this second. I am considering keeping the car to part out. I live in a suburb of Syracuse, NY so location is also a consideration when buying a car. I prefer a road car that looks mostly stock, but can have some performance touches. I am not interested in a drag car. So, if you have something or see something, let me know.

The doors will not open. The car trunk cannot be opened. The quarter panels will need to be replaced and it will need the spare tire holder repaired along with possible frame work and a rear valance, trunk trim, and emblem.

The body shop informed me it would cost more to repair than the car value.
