Im interested in putting headers on my 66 dart, but uninterested in cutting my inner fender well, and more uninterested paying around 700$. Ive been looking at some "block hugger" style headers and it looks like it can be done with some possible alterations done to the primaries on the driver side? Anybody ever tried this? And if so how did it turn out?

Been proven not to work many times.

Steering column in direct conflict with Dakota/Durango/GC style. Steering box and K-member in direct conflict with center dump hot rod type.

Dougs or TTI are your only two real options, and neither of them are especially cheap. Then again, they are of high quality, and life is too short for cheap headers.

Search function works pretty good on most Forums. :)

These headers will fit.

How close were those Dakota logs. I have seen 2 '65's that had them installed. Looked like they dropped in, how close are they (im guessing steering shaft only, column can be trimmed easy enough)?

I decided on HP manifolds, but they aren't exactly giving those away. I gave $425 for a set. They will flow well enough but don't sound like headers. For $300 difference, I can live with the sound.

Happy Thanksgiving.

My headers are wasted .I'm trying to make more . They are gonna be raw . I have no welder . I can farm hat out to a friend . Well the headers are @ 30 year old J R headers .

Really? Can you post pictures of them. Mine were bought from Moper Performance back in the 90's. Came in a JR header box with Headman Hustler stickers in the box.

If I could do it all again I would do under chassis, but both bring up issues though. Back then I couldn't find under chassis. Other than I was told if I could find the D-Dart headers, and then didn't happen.

Now, they make them. If I was starting over I would go that route.

spitfires are a way to go dougs and tti read your specs some work with power steering some wont some with 904 tyranny not with 727 they are getting closer but not cheaper and you better have your motor set where its gonna stay when they are put in because if you move you just gave up your header clearances and they might not work all of a sudden CHECK YOUR SPECS 1 5/8 STEPUP 2 1/2 COLLECTOR
tti and dougs spit fire and tuck tights or find they king of welding headers to make a nice set that fit but expect to spend 1500.00 to take them to the tail

Got some Headman block huggers with a new system getting fitted as we speak will try and shoot some pics for you all to see as they were telling me it was a bit of a challenge to get it over the drag link on the drivers side as they were not happy running the pipes beneath the drag link due to clearance and neatness.

Moparlee , the JR headers are the ones that are wasted and were put on in the early 80's they came with the car when I got it 13yrs ago . LOL . I did have to mae the drivers side and the 100's of chicken hit welds are not pretty . Its raw but quiet when the exhaust is hooked up . I'll post a pic when i have time .

If your going to keep your car,Buy the TTI's with their exhaust system and you won't be dissapointed. With the 727 you need the McRobb starter ($299?) but it is a great piece also.Spend the $$ now and save it later. I still have a set of $800. Hookers in my shed because i bought the wrong ones in the 1st place.

Here are some pics as promised these are with the Headman block huggers and 2inch system. After the photos were taken the exhaust was sprayed black.

Wow, those block huggers look great on an early A. Look like they would fit better than these Old Cyclones or modded Hooker 5303's....

I don't think he has an early A; probably a 67 by his username. Early A's had the wiper motor under the dash in the passenger compartment, not in the engine compartment.

Oh yeah, nice catch. Wasn't even looking up there. Too interested in a possible turnkey header under $700......! But strangely I noticed his rather large M/C fittings?

I think the extra MC fittings are "residual valves", since he has a drum-drum MC. You wouldn't to keep those if you add disks. Indeed, I understand they aren't needed with newer wheel cylinder kits that have the washer on the spring ends or the similar tightly wound "wire washers", since those keep the rubber seal tight.

While gathering information on early A bodies headers (1965) in my case, I ran across a link to http://www.sandersonheaders.com. They show headers for small block A bodies. Has anyone tried them yet? I responded w/a few questions about their product and hope to hear back..

Holy sheepshit, those look VERY promising for an early A... I sincerely hope those can work. They look like a Dakota header which I have heard can work with a little banging...

this subject comes up every so often here, the last time was a mere 3 months back. Check out this thread; read the whole thing, as it goes off topic, but eventually comes back.

When the original poster came back and explained what had gone on, I called Sanderson and talked to Francisco, as I posted then. Guess I'll have to follow up with him since I've learned some stuff in the last little while.

ATB and Merry Christmas!
