early exhaust

I've done several early A exhaust systems on my cars. What I did is called tom Swoop at Accurate Ltd. They are located in Oregon. His guys are very knowledgeable and all they systems are fitted to actual chassis.

On my 64 Dart convertable i went with the Accurate Y pipe. i had to provide Tom with the part numbers to the manifolds. I purchased a Flowmaster two into one pipe which I installed at the end of the Y pipe. The straight pipe went back to the muffler and then we bent an over the axle pipe which went into the HP 273 resonantor. The muffler was a flowmaster. The exhaust sounded nice, no drone from the Flowmaster and from a performance standpoint the engine seems ed to respon well.

On my 64 Dart post car everything is the same except I have pipes from the fenderwell headers coming into the Flowmaster two into one with a straight pipe going all the way back to the resonator. It's not very loud and has a wicked muffled headers sound.
 
they came from a magnum engine, but haven't measured anything. I just want fitment, and clearance at this point. I have read other threads about some builders using the Flaming River Mopar conversion shaft,FR1505M. if that's the correct part number, I will get it ,if I need too.

Honestly I don't know which conversion shaft kit you should use, maybe someone else can chime in. I've only worked on 67/68/69 bodies. The reason I ask about the size of the exhaust hole is so that others will know which manifolds to pick when they are swapping out their stock manifolds for the magnums. I know which magnum manifolds have the large (2 3/16" hole) but I'm not sure about the year of your manifolds. If you have time please post the inside diameter, year and vehicle of the manifolds you bought. My car is already set up so I'm asking for this info to help others.

PS - Here's one that I machined out to match the 340 manifold (before and after pics).

the exit hole diameter is 1 7/8".
off a 98 Durango. 53010187. and 53010188.
I thought it would be bigger. oh well. if it will just fit now.

Are you sure you need a new steering arm???? My exhaust came out pretty close to the torsion bar/starter/drag link. I searched the internet for the tightest 180 degree 2 1/2" exhaust pipe and found some super tight mandrel bent pipe. I installed it myself and it came out pretty nice. It only cost $27. I had taken the car to a muffler shop last year and told them to use 2 1/2" pipe off the manifolds but when I installed the 2004R in my Cuda (this year) I found that they had used 2 1/8" with no mandrel bends on the driver's side. Most muffler shop don't have the machines to make super tight radii or to make mandrel bends. There's no point is using larger/better manifolds if your going to choke it down with small non-mandrel bent pipe. So I bought the super tight radius pipe and put it in myself.

my bad, not steering arm, the steering sector, is what I meant. it clears the manifold, but its very close, maybe the Borgeson steering rod would help, im not sure. yours looks good. I should have looked for some bends like that, the guy that put my exhaust on had a heck of a time, but he got done.

If it clears on the driver's side, even by a little, it should be OK because if I remember correctly the motor rises on the driver's side when it's under torque. So if anything, when you accelerate you'll get more clearance not less. Also, if it's not touching, you can grind just a little to get 1/16" clearance and you should be good since the engine will never move toward the driver's side. But you do have to make sure you have good motor mounts because the mounts will let the motor sag and maybe hit the manifold somewhere.
