This will be the second full swap I have done, and probably the most unique. I recently picked up this unbelievably straight and solid 57 Plaza, with this swap in mind. I had a line on a 99 Dakota R/T that a guy was parting out. I was able to get the motor, trans, dash, complete wiring and ecm, radiator, condenser, under dash HVAC unit, and everything else associated for a killer deal. The plan just fell together.

First off. The original 301 poly and 2 speed trans will move out, and make way for the more modern and usable 5.9 magnum and overdrive trans. The non a/c equipped car will now sport a complete and efficient a/c system. All of which will make this big girl much more enjoyable. All on a slim budget.

So far I have stripped the 5.9 motor and trans of wiring, swapped out the oil pan, and prepped the Plaza for the Magnum. The 301 will be excavating the premises tomorrow. Should hopefully have the 5.9 in its new home tomorrow afternoon. Here are a few pics from Today's fun!

Couple more pictures of Today's progress. I will also re use the radiator and condenser from the donor Dakota.

Sure does! What are your plans??

I was able to spend some time on the Plaza today. Got the old 301 and 2 speed trans out of the car, and do some wiring removal on the engine compartment. Anyone in need of the old power plant?? I also pulled the motor mounts off of the 301 and bolted them on to the 360. The drivers side will work with just a spacer needed on the rear bolt. The passenger side bolts on with the upper two holes, but will take some fabrication for the lower bolt to go in. Once I get that done, the motor will be set in, and the mocking up can begin. Here is a pic from Today's fun!

Cool! You're going to have your own 4dr Christine!
My engine is a 5.2 currently sitting in my 68 B'cuda. I'm finishing the wiring, starting on fuel and exhaust.

SWEET!!! I LOVED your magnum swap into your Dart!! I'll definitely be following this swap as well!! I wanna do this swap into a Duster for the bride!!

Subscribed. Might check out the rat rod market, for that 301. They usually look ,for different style engines, especially early stuff.

Awesome. I assume you are keeping the Efi??? Do you a build thread going? Would love to check it out.

Thanks man. Hopefully this one turns out just as well!

Ive actually got a M1 intake manifold I think may end up on this one. Got two of hem, might as well put one to use!

My thoughts exactly. I posted it on craigslist gearing it towards the rat rod crowd but haven't had much interest in it. May just end up at the local recycling yard.

Just about ready to test fit the magnum in the Plaza. The passenger side mount is going to receive some "modifications" to fit. Drivers side is simple and just needs a spacer to make up the gap. These mounts are pretty unique I have found out. Just need to add a tab to the RH side and she goes in the car. I have been looking for replacement engine mounts. Good luck!!!!

You're right,on the oddball engine mounts.

Never seen anything like these before. Never owned or wrenched on a 57 Plaza either loll. Very minor issue in the scheme of things. I'm just excited to see the magnum in its new home!

Don't have a build thread, should have, though.
EFI definitely in place. Also used the PCM and rewired the entire car.

For now, I'm bolted up to the original 904. I have a 2000 Jeep rear w/ Trac-Lock and 3.55 gear. I used the original 904 slip yoke and a 78 Aspen driveshaft. Perfect fit!

Nice! Cherokee I assume??

Little update here. I got the passenger side motor mount modified and bolted to the 360. Then dropped it in the hole. Its like it was meant to be there. Mounts lined right up. Now at this point I can get things mocked up, like the radiator, wiring routing, and so on. Once all that is done I will pill the motor back out and get it cleaned up and painted. The engine compartment will also receive a clean up and a fresh coat of satin black.

That's cool! Since the Magnum section's started, lots of people wanting to wire the stock EFI.....

I don't see why not! Its such an easy under taking! Most guys are freaked out with the wiring. The way I do it its pretty much just a plug and play deal. As long as you have a complete donor, its painless. This swap is kinda out of the ordinary, but the same principals apply.

Agreed, The wiring is super simple if you've got the complete donor. Even if all you have is the "under hood" pieces and the rest has been cut its as easy as installing just how it came out. Main hot from the battery to the power distribution center, ign switch hot to C1 pin 2 and make sure all of the grounds are tied to the engine.
Cleaning up the harness and installing the fuel system are the hard parts.

....that engine looks sooo tiny in there :D

Keep up the good work BadAss71! I'm expecting your next swap to include abs and cruise control.... no pressure

You are exactly right! There are so many donor vehicles out there its ridiculous! Yea man, I am digging the extra room in there. I have plenty of room for exhaust and cooling for sure. I pulled the motor out, cleaned up the fender aprons and painted them semi gloss black. I left the firewall alone. The motor got cleaned up as well and got a fresh coat of semi gloss also. I slapped on a set of valve covers and put her back in for good. The transmission will go in next. I've decided to go with a A500 trans I have that's fresh and ready to instead of the 46re. Here are a couple pics of the current state.
