I got a 73 dart sport and have been having wiring issues lately.

I was looking at the madelectrical.com page and was wondering if my system was the same as what was being showed on the pickup? my guage dosent say weather i is an amp or volt guage. can anyone clear this up for me?

I am having problems blowing fuses on the heater blower motor, my ignition doesn't always give current to the motor, and I have a melted fuse box and some melted harness clips under the dash. I am thinking this might be a cause of my problems...

From the sounds of it you have way too many issues to try to repair what you have going on. I would honestly look into replacing what is in the car. I think that by the time you get all the problems fixed if you can, you will end up having more time and money in repairing a 30 year old harness. Just my .02.

If you have a melted fuse box, chances are that you need a new harness...........It's entirely possible that the main harness buss behind the drivers side of the dash (that is, behind your gauge cluster, and clamped around the upper left portion of the cluster) may have some issues.............at times, due to age and friction, these short out....screws through the dash can also cause the problems, starting slow, and ending in full blown disasters.

You definitely need to disconnect the system from the battery, and remove the gauge cluster and dash components, including your fan switch section.............if you have plastic dash covers in the center and on the glove box, you need to remove the center portion by removing 2 nuts up inside the dash on the back of the center trim panel.........then you can access the area behind the radio and heater controls.

Harnesses are made specifically for the car in question........I've seen a few out there for these A-Bodies..........you MIGHT save the one you have, but you'd have countless hours of work peeling back burned areas and splicing in new sections, and even then there could be places you miss.

At any rate, you won't know until you fully expose the harness inside that dash, hold it in your hands, and give it a very close and thorough inspection. I've done it on a few occasions......not as bad as it sounds. Just a little patience.

Good Luck..................:burnout:

I have the 73 factory manual with prints.
Is there a way, and would it be permited, for me to scan them and upload them to a tech section on this site?
Many people would beneft from the actual Chrysler prints, being better than any generic brand fix-it type of manual.
I feel pretty sure the 73 and up prints would work ok for most of the post 73 cars. I have the 72 manual and it looks like the 73 prints are more simplified and better.

Oh, it is an amp meter.
One of the senior members has the link explaning why this isn't the best arrangment. But is is what we have.
Maybe they will post it.

I saw that site and am thinking that is my problem. just wanted to make sure that I was bypassing a problem area and not just burning up what is left of the harness.

I was planning to pull the harness one at a time and checking everything motor harness first then the under dash. I have factory in dash air so that kind of makes me nervous but I think I can get threw it. is there any other known problem areas in the harness I should look for?

sorry for the edit but is there a place to get factory replacement connectors? a few of mine are melted and I was wanting to put them back together the way it was?
