Hi all, anyone used an electric defroster in their car instead of the factory heater? I see these 300w electric heater defrosters for sale cheap on ebay, they look compact and light, but do they work and is 300w too much draw? I'm figuring that's about 25ish amps. They'd be a double bonus for me, as I have no heater at the moment, and my drive to work is very short, so if I took the duster it'd never warm up anyway.

I cannot believe they would be very effective, maybe in mild weather, and just an air blower would probably do as well in that case. You used to see "defroster fans" commonly "back in the day."

This is "vintage" AKA my Gramp's 40 Ford

25A through your lighter is not going to be "fun"

I tried using one of those to deice the windshield one Winter (in a cheap commuter car). It was not effective even though it drew a lot of current. I ended up tossing it.

Not worth the trouble, perhaps two,but the amps required to run them is a fire waiting to happen.
