I have not installed electric fans as of yet but am thinking of doing the Contour fans on my Champion rad with a Dakota digital controller.
Most of the setups I see have the fan on while the A/C is working and I get that if you are in town driving. 95% of my driving is on the highway and I would dought the need of the fan being on above 35 mph.
Would I be better off just using the controller to regulate my engine temp and have a override switch that I can turn on in the car or have the switch turn off the fan when I`m at speed on the highway.
What are you guys doing with electric fans and A/C
Thanks Mike

IMHO. have fans on whenever the AC compressor is on, don't worry about the driving conditions.

Yes, fan controllers normally have a connection to the clutch on the ac compressor, so the fan runs when ever the AC compressor is engaged,
You are correct, you may not need the fan to cool the evaporator at highway speeds, but for the sake of simplicity, have the fan on when the compressor is running.

The a/c isn't going to work properly if the temperature of the refrigerant isn't changed. Hot to cooler or warm to colder. Even in dead of winter, selecting defrost cycles the a/c to dry the air, and while doing so the condenser fan runs.

Ok thanks guys, looks like I have my anser. I will hook it up on the controller to work with the A/C if I go this route.
I am in the middle of rewiring and am trying to plan on any future upgrades I may make.

They do low and high pressure cut off and also turn on your electric fans.

look on the Vintage Air web site,, they are explained ,,
I have checked out the vintage air video and now have a better understanding of the switch and how it works. I suppose you could hook it to the Dakota digital controller with a relay as the controller needs a + signal to activate and the trinary switch puts out a - signal. If you don`t hook it to the controller I would guess you would hook it up to the high speed side of the fan.
What do you think.
Thanks for all the info.
Mike
