Looking to do away with the belt driven high flow water pump on my 340 and install an electric pump. I have power steering as well and was wondering if any one know of a good electric pump that will work with power steering without too many mods (extra idler pulleys etc)?

CSR makes one a 903r (red) and 903b (blue). I would think you would only have to get a shorter belt and run the p/s off your crank. They are kinda pricey, around $350.00 bucks. I'll check around and see what else I can find for you.

I posted several weeks ago asking for recommendations/pros & Cons on elec water pumps (ie. CSR, Meziere, etc.). I didn't get any replies. Mind if I piggy back on your thread? It may benefit us both.

I've sold quite a few CSR s, not neccessarily for Mopars, and have had no issues with them so far. I don't know a lot about the Mezieres never sold one. A lot of the elec pumps don't come with the water outlet nipple so make sure you inquire before you buy. I also found one that Moroso makes, part # 63565. If you guys need to know any of the specs on the pumps such as flow rate, amp draw, nipple size,etc. let me know and I will find out for you.

Xstream, thanks for the offer. You were going to be selling parts on-line correct? If so, how can you do (price-wise) on these pumps?
 
From everything I've read and seen an electric water pump is not street friendly. Their made for race cars mainly. A buddy of mine tried to run one on his 408 in a Cuda and it overheats in no time driving on the street. It's the best one he could find.
 
What about going with those electric motors that can drive your manual pump?
 
From what i have seen, there are 2 ways.

1. use a manual pump and add an electric motor to drive it. Cheaper way to go about $90.

2. Use a pump that has and electric motor built in. more expensive about $340. but i think you can rebuild them.

I have been looking into using these too, but not sure if i want to.
 
That CSR unit is quite nice loooking. I'd still be wary about running one on the street unless they have came up with one that flows enough to keep a street engine cool. The company should be able to tell you if they'll work on the street. I believe the motor conversion is for race units only that only run 1/4 mile then shut down to cool. I know it didn't work at all for my buddy. He can only drive about 5 miles at a time in the summer then has to stop for awhile to let it cool.
 
Yeah those electric motor driven stock pumps will not work at all. As for the electric pumps though, some say they work, others say they don't. It probably all depends on your engine and the complete cooling system.

I have a Meziere on my race car and it works good for that but it wouldn't cool it if I let the engine run continually. If thats all due to coolant flow or other factors I can't answer.
 
Running a CSR on my 572 Hemi in a 67 Dart with a Be Cool radiator, no poblems on the street or highway, have driven to Mopars at the Red Barn about 150 mi.

Any one use a Moroso 63565 electric water pump? Lets hear any reviews on this pump.
 
I have a Meziere HD electric water pump on my 505" 675HP Big Block and it works great for cooling at the drag strip ( in between rounds with the motor shut off and the twin electric fans blowing ) ....but....not so much for street driving...I checked with Meziere Tech and they say their electric pump pumps LESS WATER than a stock belt driven pump at 2500, or more, RPM...so street driving with a lot of RPM driving over 2500 RPM the electric pump will pump (and cool) less than your regular belt driven OEM pump....and that is a fact.
 
I believe electric water pumps have come a long way since 2008. They are pretty common on street cars now. Most flow upwards of 35 GPM, some are 55. If it's not an everyday driver, it's probably fine.

For an electric water pump to work on a street-driven car, the rest of the cooling system obviously needs to be up to snuff. You need to have a good fan controller and fans for sure and a good radiator. Probably don't want a filled or half-filled block or anything like that but how many guys are driving on the street with a filled block?

There is no coolant bypass for warmup so you probably need to drill holes in the t-stat, gut it or run a restrictor. Can't run a heater either.

The Meziere requires a back plate for the timing cover which is an additional cost. The Moroso bolts in the stock location and is slightly cheaper than the Meziere. With either one you have to buy a hose inlet adapter and figure out how to mount and drive your accessories.

A nice feature on the Moroso is that it can be clocked any number of ways to get clearance for belts. I need that!
