Electronic Ignition module location question

My car has a MSD ignition system and the previous owner removed the glove box and installed the electronics there. Is this done because of heat inside the engine compartment and is protecting it from the normal engine bay heat that important. I have been thinking about moving it to the fender well and putting a glove box back in.
