Will be getting my 68 fastback back from body shop next month.
340 rebuilt sitting in shop redy to be installed.
What is the easiest way to do this.
727 tranny and hookers on motor. It just doesnt look like it will work.
Any suggestions.
New to this.
Thanks

Drop the headers in and then drop the motor down on the engine mounts. Leave the hoist there for support for now. Then lift the tranny up from below. I wouldn't try and install then hooked up. This is how I did it all 3 times and it works pretty well. I have never scratched anything doing it this way.

Unbolt the front suspension, bolt the engine, trans. etc. to the cross member and lower the body down over it.
This is a little more work but you won't have to worry about scratching the paint.

Thanks for the fast reply.
Is it hard hooking up tranny from below.
Have just a regular garage. Looks kinda hard
to do from below with about 15" ground clearance.
BTW I like the look of your car. Trying to achive the same
look with the bigger tires on back. What size are they
I am only going to be cruising no racing. Will these fit
witout any mods.
thanks

I agree with BARRACUDA340S. That's the way to do it. If you had a manual trans I'd try to go the other way. Get'm stabbed can be a beast of a chore without scratchin the paint.

Good luck.

Thanks

my tires are mickey sportsman I L60's basically 28.5" tall and 12.3" wide. I'm going a tad smaller for better clearance.

I live in the great white north.
Canada's capital Ottawa.
It was only -40 last night and my well froze.
Cant wait to get my car back and take my mind
of this weather. Cruise nights, cruise nights yeahhh

You can swing the motor in with the tranny on, no problem. I even got mine in with the hood on the car.

You will have to put the headers in first with the steering linkage diconnected at the drivers side inner tie rod.

The way Evilscamp said to do it is probably best though.
