My '68 340 (casting date June, 1967) used the old biscuit type mounts. I ditched those when I went to a '73 Kmember; new K has the through-bolt perches. So now I have to use the later style mounts. There is an obvious left and right side mount, but they are dimensionally identical.

The problem I have is that the mounting ears on the block are not the same on the left and right sides. The left (driver) side ears are much more narrow than on the right (passenger) side. The mounts are dimensioned to fit the wider spread on the right side of the block.

I can make the right side work. But the left side leaves a gap that I will have to fill with a spacer of some sort; I think a little bit longer bolt and a nut between the block ear and the mount and another nut on the outside of the mount will hold it.

I'm curious if anyone else has run into this with mixing the early 340 with the '73-up K? I don't know if this is just with the early 340 (as mine has to be one of the earliest with a 6/67 casting date) or if all of the 340s had the same issue with different openings between the mounting ears.

You most likely have 318 mounts.. they have 1 wider mount than the 340/360 mounts. Just use a stack of washers or a nut to take up the space and tighten her up.

That's a 340/360 thing- when using 318 brackets you need to use a 5/8" (IIRC) spacer or a stack of washers on the rear ear on the driver's side. The passenger side should just bolt directly up.

The easiest way is to just space that rear ear, I think it's 3/8 inch. Or you can find the 360 spool mount-itwould be the same spacing as your 340. The part number for the left 360 mount is 3642813. You can get nice poly inserts for these mounts if your rubbers are wore out. Energy Suspension part no 51106 in either red or black. Get them on Rock Auto-cheaper than anywhere else. If you go with the new inserts you have to remove the rubber from your mounts. I use a propane torch, heat the shell all the way around and push the hot smoking rubber plug out. Clean the inside of the shell, the poly insert has to push in that shell.

Got 'er done. I had to nut it on the inboard side of the ear because with the added bolt length required for the spacers the bolt wouldn't fit between the front and rear ears.
