Where is the best place to bolt an engine sling on a slant six. I need to pull the engine and trans. I'm going to pull the intake and exhaust manifolds before I pull the engine. If anyone in So. Calif wants the engine and trans let me know. I'm going with a V8. Thanks

Or if going out the top, I'd get a load leveler and bolt it to the two threaded holes on the head and work the leveler to raise the front to clear everything. I've pulled the slant and 904 out of several 65 Darts without a leveler or taking the hood off so it can be done!

Just used a chain and a friend. Was a pain in the *** not having my leveler but it worked out pretty good.

Oh and disconnect the trans yoke from driveshaft and wire tight to tranny. Then no leaking fluids out the *** end.

Dropping the k-frame and taking it out the bottom is really easy. Makes for a very easy install as well.
I was thinking about taking out the engine from the bottom since I have to change the K member but I don't have a way to lift the front of the body high enough to get the engine out. Thanks

I was actually thinking about getting a leveler, they are not that expensive at Summit Racing. Thanks

You need the friend to help lift *** end of tranny over the rad support. :)

I used a load leveler from harbor freight. It was a quick and easy one man job.

Pulled mine a few weeks ago. Remove as much as you can first. Here is a pic showing where to mount a chain if you are pulling it out with the transmission.

There are two large tapped holes at the top of the head, left side. The front hole is to lift the engine alone. The rear hole is to lift engine w/ tranny. Meaning the hole is at the balance point for each lift. At least that is what experts here found in old documents and photos. The factory had a special lift plate that bolted to those 2 holes, seen in photos, and a few people procured one. You could rig your own leveler by rigging an adjustable cable between the main lift cable top and rear of the engine. A small come-along or load strap tensioner "should work".

All you need is a good chain, two grade eight bolts bolt one on the front of the head and in the middle where there are two holes. Pull them out engine and trans togather is the easiest removing and installing. Not special levels etc needed

Thanks for the advice.

the load leveler is extremely useful. drain the tranny though. and since you need a k member for the v8, drop it out the bottom with the k member attached, way easier.
