looking at the numbers on the motor that I got out of a 81 D150

head part number 4104362, so that is a 79-80 mechanical lifter head
block casting number is 2806830-7, that makes it a 68-75 RG block

the serial number stamped on the pad behind the alternator has

4225 T 312

I'm confident the 225 means it is a 255
what about the 4,, would that mean 1974?
any idea on the T
is the 312,,, March 12th?
or perhaps a julian date, 312 day of the year?

thanks

I'm looking for additional numbers on a motor I just bought but haven't found any other than these.....Dunno WHAT I'm looking at.

what you have shown are casting numbers, engine build s/n are stamped
to find those on the crankcase, look at the area between the alternator bracket and the very bottom edge of the cylinder head,
right at the split line where the block and cylinder head meet,
the block head face extends slightly past the cylinder head, there is a little shelf there,,that area is likly grimy, hard to see any numbers, but they are there. You can get in there with a paper towel and a long thin screw driver to wipe it clean.
I'll get a photo of the location and post it.

here is a photo,, the pad is just below the #1 spark plug

look close, you can see the screw driver pointing to the stamped number
