I've installed a late 70's 360 with little known history. The engine has a bad vibration/shake at idle, but it does seem to smooth out a little with rpm.
-I have a b&m 10236 external balance flex plate
-b&m torque converter with "triangular" balance weight removed(picture is an example of the weight I removed.

I believe I found the problem today. Can somebody verify that this is the wrong harmonic balancer for my engine?

I believe you need an externally balance damper. The one in the photo is an internally balanced damper. 65'

Yes, that looks like a neutral balance damper. The one for your external balance 360 will have an obvious assymmetrical front flange.

Edit to add: However, now that I look at the 3 holes drilled in one side of the damper ring I am not so sure. The 3 holes seem to be a lot for balancing a simple neutral balance damper.

Those 3 holes are what I'm questioning as well...

No, you're first statement was correct. The inertia ring will be asymmetrical. Damper in the photo is neutral balance.

That is the wrong harmonic balancer
were you using the weight from the converter, with the weighted B&M flex plate?

IF your using an aftermarket flex plate with the 1/2 moon out of it you need to remove the converter weight. That is the wrong balancer for a 360. There is a 79 Magnum in the yard here with a 360 in it.
