Has anyone checked how much actual weight was saved when they replaced stock LA heads and intake with aluminum parts?

I think I got this off moparts a year or so ago. I think it's pretty accurate.

400 block empty weight-222lbs

complete stock b motor short
block-350lbs

452 head 51 lbs/ea
stage 6 head 26
lbs/ea
difference of 25 lbs/ea
iron intake 40lbs
aluminum
intake 15lbs
difference of 25 lbs
iron ex. manifolds 50 lbs

headers 25 lbs
difference of 25 lbs
iron water pump/housing 20
lbs
aluminum, setup 5 lbs
difference of 15 lbs

Stock (all iron) Engine Weight's

Slant Six 475
273-340 "A" V8 525
360 "A" 550
361-383-400 V8 620
413-426W-440 V8 670

Street Hemi 765INDY MAXX AL engine - 528CI - 470 lbs assembled
I believe the 5.7 hemi is 475 lbs fully dressed...

I went with a 400 with alum heads/intake/water pump + denso alt
which weighs about the same as a stock all iron 360
(people who complain about an ABody being nose heavy with a bigblock are the ones using the iron heads)

aluminum heads and intake alone save you 65 pounds on a V8

if I was to build a small block I would definitely not use iron heads unless they were free.
beware ordering the AirWolf heads (supposedly the best small block heads right now) on moparts there are some huge whine threads because of 10-month backorders. i'd get edelbrock or something available rather than waiting 10 months

Use aluminum parts were you can and you'll cut a pretty good chunk of weight off the motor.

Thanks for the info. guys. I thought it might be a little bit more, but I guess 40-60 lb isn't too bad. An aluminum radiator should be good for another 10 lb.

Sounds good 40-50 for the heads 25 intake 25 exhaust man , 100 lbs off the front end is great

I seem to remember it being 80lbs lighter for my small block (heads and intake)...but I could be wrong...it is WAY lighter for sure, I just don't remember how much.
