So here's the story.... Hopped in my daily driver (68 Cuda 74'318) started right up like always but then it backfired, I got out to chech under the hood ( while it was still running) opened the hood and it died. I started it again no backfire this time but only ran about 10 seconds before it died. I tried it again and got the same results, any sugestions? Ps engine has 2000 miles since rebulit and I've never had any problems

Do you have spark to the plugs? Did you check the distributor to see if it's tight and didn't rotate and go out of time?

Has the fuel tank ever been cleaned out?

Does the car sit outside? Was it a damp day? I've heard of distributor caps condensating inside.

If you have factory electronic ignition, make sure your ignition box has a good ground to the case of the box.

If it was fuel-related, I doubt it would've backfired more than one occasion.

"Something's rotten in Denmark" on that ignition. :D

Could be all of the above or bad coil even. Need a few more details.

Pull the distributor cap and turn the engine over and make sure the distributor is rotating.

Then check for spark.

Then check for gas.
