Pulled the 340 out of my Dart to clean up the engine and engine bay so thought I would see what cam is in it since previous owner had no idea:thumbdow: Looks like its a hydraulic judging by the lifters but the only details on the end of the cam are "Erson Viking 100H". Anybody have a clue what the specs are on this cam?? I could not find any info on the internet.

Thanks
Derrick

i got it in an erson cams catalog.

Viking 100H Pn 422061 valve lift .453 duration 304 duration @ .050 226

timing: IO 44 IC 80
EO 80 EC 44

description: street and strip cam. OK for torque flight in 318 or larger engine with gears. good idle in larger engine

Even though it's a mild cam, I'd suspect it was originally ground for a higher compression engine with that 80* intake close...

late 70s hydraulic grinds for bigblock, they were advertised as stage 2 and 3.

Looking good to me,with a actual 9:8 to 10: 1 compression ,unported/bowl blended X or J castings to me.(gears help!)

split pattern stage 2 street/strip stage 3 strip only and stage 1 mild rv.

That cam with 226 @ .050 probably has an operating range of about 1800-5500, possibly a bit more. Remember "small cam" doesn't mean "bad cam". That's an excellent street grind. Not a thing in the world wrong with it. Will be very easy on the valve train and probably run for a very long time with no trouble whatsoever. Comparing it to stock cams with duration @ .050 figures under 200, that's a sizeable cam. Just because a cam doesn't have 250 @ .050 doesn't mean it has no worth.

Well stated!!!^^^ These cams ,do work. It takes experience to understand....

I had no idea what was in my 340 so picked this Ultradyne solid mechanical cam up from a fellow A-Bodies Only member and was going to install it. (cam specs on Ultradyne 485" lift, 238 @ .050", 272 @ .020", 110 degree lobe separation).
You guys think I should make the swap or continue to run the Erson:dontknow:
My 1969 340 is mostly stock as far as I know but will also be getting an RPM intake, Holley 750 dp, Mopar electronic ignition, Hedman Headers with 2 1/2" Pypes exhaust and I am running a 4-speed. Heads have an 'O' by the spark plugs not an 'X' or 'J'
