im almost ready to put my 408 stroker into my 72 demon. right now i have Doug's headers, ill be getting dynomax ultra flo mufflers.. my question is what should i do for the rest of the exhaust.. we will be having around 500hp so i don't want to lose power from having an under size exhaust system.. im thinking of doing TTI 3 inch exhaust.. with it being mandrel bent it will flow nicely and not rob any HP. if i go with 2.5 TTI mandrel bent there's a change it can rob me of hp.. whats your guys opinions about TTI exhaust systems, the size, and any other options i should look into..

3 inch is over kill. 2.5 is fine. But someone will chime in saying otherwise. And you should go 4 inch. Let the games begin

im also concerned about having clearance issues around the rear axle and gas tank with 3 inch.

Afraid of a power loss with small exhaust w/500 hp?

3 inch pipes. Though over the axle has no clearance.

A 2-1/2 will reduce some power that you'll not miss on the street. And you will have clearance.

(edit, spelling)

How often do you drive on the street under full 500+ horsepower? 5 to 10 miles before you let off? If your that worried go open headers and be done with it.

My uncoated TTI headers started leaking at the tops of the merges after 5 years of continuous use, 4 seasons. I pulled them down and sealed them up, which lasted another 3 years, now no longer driven in winter. They have never leaked at the head flange. They have now been on there since 1999. So my opinion is that they are great headers! In the long run, the cheapest most trouble-free I have ever owned.
As to the piping;I bought the 3s, not cuz I needed it, but cuz it cost the same. I had no problems making it fit.
I wanted my headers to have the best chance of working with just a 367 cuber.Car went 93 in the 1/8, so I'm guessing the combo works.
But with a stroker, you already have a preponderance of power. So a reasonable compromise might be 3s into the mufflers and 2.5s out.

I'd like to add that the slip-fits are pretty tight. I did not clamp them together anywhere. Instead, after careful positioning the mufflers, I drilled the spigots and installed short screws. The front ends, at the collectors, I did not even do that. This makes taking them off in the driveway easy. I also drilled the mufflers at the lowest spots to drain them of moisture. After 17 plus years the Dynomaxers are still looking good. I bought the TPs with factory turndowns.
The pipes all had to be trimmed to fit my 108wb. I started at the back, so I could shift the fat-boys into just the right spots. I did have to center the tank and fold up the corners. And I moved the springs inboard and narrowed the rear to accept 325/50-15s.The car has since been lowered. None of these were a problem. At the front of the TPs I used the factory provided mounting locations. At the rear I had to fabricate hangers. I even fit a LD trailer-hitch in there.
My car is 100% street, and was a DD for many years.

Or, how about 3 inch into Warlock mufflers and 2-1/2 out to the back.
Uncap the ends or install electric it outs on the other outlet side on a race or race day?

3" is just fine the x-pipe is an excellent idea too,on my duster I have 3" h-pipe with cutouts into 3" mufflers with 2.5 tail pipes W/stainless factory tips..

y did you go 2.5 tail pipes if you went 3 inch h pipe?

later i plan on doing a mini tube and spring relocating to get wider tires..

Is this 500 hp on the Dyno?
add water pump, fan, fuel pump, alternator, air cleaner and mufflers
with 18 feet of pipe and 2 1/2" with lo restriction mufflers may be fine?
..2 1/2 may be more economical and easier to install/fit.

just found an exhaust site and their tests showed 2 1/2 duals will flo 463hp.
i'm sure others have found differing results..who knows?

edit...add this was not an exhaust company or a tv show or magazine with
paying advertisers.

most say thats the way to go to keep the exhaust speed up.. by the time it gets to the tail pipes its cool enought that a 2.5" tail pipe is better then a 3" tail pipe.

i used a tti system on jamies dart when i put it together... used manifolds and a X pipe.. total pain in the *** to install. but boy one on it fits perfect.. well except for the turn downs that i thought stuck out way too far... i trimmed those back some.

is there any testing done with this that shows no losses.. this is something i would be willing to do..
