well after reading more and your help we are going to go with 3 inch and after the muffler go with 2.5. and then later we will put some cut outs in for the track. best of both worlds

You do realize that it will only be a few HP difference right?

I do not know how the Warlocks sound. I had Ultra Flows before.

Stock 340's back in the day were 2 1/4 to the muffler with 1 3/4 or 1 5/8 tailpipes.

But I`ll tell u a truth. I built a hot 406 sbc, and put it in a 92 gmc short wide bed p/u. I built my own exhaust consisting of turbo fin auger type inserts in 3" straight pipes, dumping in front of the rear axle. I got to wanting 3" all the way back, and had an exhaust shop in Owasso ,ok. run them over the axle, and out behind the rear wheels, Camaro style. The moment I started it , to back it out of the shop, I could tell the diff.. I drove straight home and pulled the tail pipes off, "there was that much diff. in it ! By the way, I still have those new tail pipes in the barn, if someone wants them ! I doubt ur 408 is going to make as much h.p. as that 406 , but the full tail pipes " will hurt it" !! The truck ran hi elevens w/ a 1.50 60 foot, and as driven to work a lot ,28 miles each way.
