I need to replace the exhaust tips on my 68 formula S barracuda. I'm looking for reccomendations and/or warnings for chrome or stainless. which do you prefer and why?
if you plan on having fun with your car, definitely stainless. They may not be 'exact' as original but they are very close. They literally will last the life of the car. Chrome could rust on you in a couple years. Also stainless is not all that much more expensive. If anyone wants a Member price on any of our stainless mopar tips, shoot me a pm with the year and model you have.
No matter chrome or stainless make sure you get the correct ones if your present exhaust is pretty original. The 2nd gen Barracuda dual exhaust chrome tips are not straight, but are angled up.
I don't think the tips are bent up. They definitely are angled "up", but I THINK the tail pipe end is "angled up" so the tips look angled up. The dart is the same way, I feel. My '68 GTS, bought new, had tips "angled-up." That is a bit of a pet peeve with me, also. It bothers me when they don't tip up slightly. That being said, I feel my 2nd Gen barracuda tips don't angle correctly, either. This bothers me no end, but the guy who did my exhaust didn't know any better, and I was fortunate I got anything, as it was an in-kind trade from years before.
FWIW, I have a pair of '69 B'cuda tips I took off my car that I've had since '80. I don't believe they were re-popping them at that point. They are in fact canted upward slightly.
so to sum, tips are different from dart to barracuda, in length and in the canting/ no canting, correct? have you ever measured the canting? that's something I'd like to know.
Cheap China stainless now days does. Cheap chrome plating now days does as well. I would recommend stainless
Ok, it seems we're in agreement for the stainless tips. Next question, who sells the best set with the angle? Classic? YearOne? Laysons?
If you are like most and only drive in nice weather, get the correct chrome tips. They will last forever.
