Hello FABO family. First some story (good car **** needs some sort of story line!)

I am days away from my 30th birthday and doing a garage restoration (ok technically restification) of a 1967 Barracuda Fastback. The car started life as a plain jane bench seat 273 auto. My aunt (not the original owner) drove this car in high school. When she moved out of the house she sold the car. After the sale went bad, my dad ended up with the car and used it as a daily driver while I was in grade school.

One day the tranny made some crazy sounds, parts started decorating the streets, and the cuda went no more. So it sat in the back yard. 10 years, 5 moves later on my 15th birthday (after much begging) I received the cuda as my bday present. The plan was to have it ready to drive for my 16th birthday. Family health issues and other priorities took priority, and the car remained parked.

I sold my go-cart (and pretty sure dad kicked in too) to put brakes/bearings/rotors and a tune up on a 1974 Charger SE and drove that around.

That didn't last long before the tranny in that car was shot. After college at age 25 I finally had a place with a 2 garage to give the cuda the attention it deserves. While originally the plan at age 15 ws to get it running and drive the wheels off of it, the current plan calls for a little more.

For the last 5 years on and off I have worked on the cuda with my dad, brothers, and anyone else that thinks pushing a sanding block and turning a wrench is more interesting than watching guys in tights pass around a ball on tv.

Build order: main body/metal work, finish engine bay, inside metal. Paint engine bay and interior, rebuild suspension and swap in reinforced 73 k member, install electrical (new wiring)and motor. Finish block sanding and paint.

THE PLAN:
Engine: 1969-70 340
Trans: retain auto (rebuilt)
Rear end: someone already did 8 3/4 swap
Front brakes: 73 disc
Paint: Mopar PVG mango-tango "toxic orange."
Other:
leaving the bench seat since this car will be for cruisin
shaved reverse lights
aftermarket a/c
ron francis wiring
power lock/ manual window
later paint matched mirrors
painted fiberglass bumpers

Today's adventure: I thought my car had undercoating on the whole underside. Turns out the whole underside was just covered in 45 years worth of gunk! here is me cleaning underneath:

Shutterfly is awesome. Check mine out if you like. Car looks great, keep up the good work.

This reinforcement panel was shoved into the floor pan. I was able to pry and bang it out away from the floor, but it will be much easier to shape off of the car. The passenger side is also pictured in case you aren't sure how it is supposed to fit.

There was a repair to the bottom of the fender, i figured it was rust related, i guess it was "incident" related.

More to come as I get it shaped and welded back in.

The firewall project is getting closer to completion. My photos are too high res to post, but you are welcome to check them out!

The mater cylinder is flush mounted and the wall is converted to a 2 bolt setup. I am welding cage nuts behind the wall and using stainless allen head bolts to hold it in.

Chris,
looking good...seems like your fixing the right way, great job. Ever consider moving the wiper to the inside of the firewall ? It's a pretty simple task and I'm sure it's within your skill level buy the quality of the work so far.

Thanks Ross
You know I hadn't really thought about it much. Did I see in your build or maybe somewhere else that a minivan wiper motor will work? do you have any mock-up pics?

Looking at what has been done so far, and the work to do the wiper motor area- If I were to do it all over I would cut out everything north of the trans tunnel, roll a piece of metal through a bead roller weld it in and call it a day.

hindsight eh.

After some research on wiper motor alternatives, I started shaving the wiper motor recess.

As promised in the wiper motor shave thread, below is a peek at the "surprise" in store for pulling it off.

The filler piece you see above is to replicate the factory pinch weld. The gaping hole where the motor mount was will be filled with some sheet metal with a 90* bend up top to add to the pinch.

The goal is to have the smooth look on the firewall, but make it look like it came that way, not as an after thought.

I thought about shaving off the pinch completely, but it is structural and I like having that hard break so I can paint the engine bay, then install the motor and get the car moving under it's own power before I complete the rest.

I've also done some craigslist hunting lately, found these rims/tires/hubcaps (hub cap pic is ebay photo) as well as a (2nd) spare fastback glass, a 68/9 rear window seal (new) and a chrome 1 wire alternator!
