Just wanted to share how nice the old thumper's looking. You'll recognise her as a variant of the US 1966 Plymouth Valiant.

the rears are stock rims that have an extra 3/4" on either side to hit 6".
so i've got 215/65's on the rear without going deep dish or hitting the inner wheel well.

the interior is the basic Bermuda Sands split bench but with plush blue carpet. and nice repair of the front bench by the boys in newport.

Looks good. Question: When you see interior pictures of left hand drive cars, do they look as odd to you as the right hand ones do to me?
 
I have always liked the styling on the Ausie cars. It's like they tried a little bit harder then they did state side. The interior looks so much nicer compared to a US model. What I always thought was interesting is the foot controls are standard world wide based off the early cadillac. But, the hand controls are reversed or varied.
 
Yeah it's a "variant" alright. That thing is cool.
 
Although I have seen them (RHD vehicles) in person, I guess I haven't been paying attention. I always assumed the pedals were a mirror image, with the accelerator pedal being on the inside. Kinda funny to find out it's not. Seems to me on very small cars there could be a problem with wheelhouse intrusion. Probably have to severely offset the pedal.
 
yes, it is a steering column lock. that'd the only option the first owner actually got - he never put a radio in or anything.

i'll get more pics up soon. we normally run her with moon discs at the car shows, but i'll take some with the dog-dish caps on too.


and yes, for us who drive on the right side, your leftie cars are all wrong. wrong i tellz ya!
 
I have never seen that on a stateside car. Or, heard of it as an option. i wonder if it could be installed on a US car? The columns appear the same externally. Just the shifter and signals are reversed.
 
now that's wierd. didn't i reply? saying i keep knocking my knee on the damn steering lock and i'd be happy to remove it?

and then someone asked me if the engine still leans to the same side.
i was going to post back 'nah, we have to run the engine upside down because we're in the southern hemisphere'

damn, and i gaver yself a good chuckle over that, too.

Yes you did and I see my post is gone also and I was the one that asked if your 6 was a slant .... :tongue9: where did they go!! I posted a picture of my fire wall and drivers side floor :???:

I learned to drive on a 66 Mercury like the one parked next to your Valiant. You NEVER see those any longer. Oops: looked more closely: what is that car? It looks like 90% of a 66 full size Mercury..

Was this an actual 66 Australian Valiant or did Chrysler make this particular design for more than just 66 ? Did you get the redone 67s down under later than 67 ?

Love the rear end styling
