Looking at purchasing this 1970 Duster and I am trying to decode the fender tag. I have about 505 of the codes figured out. I can't make out the first 3 digit code other than ?21. Can anyone tell me what "Y05", "LGXW", and "VL29"mean? (I know the "V" is Valiant and "29" is 2 door sports coupe; what is "L"). Many thanks to whoever has this information.

Looks like a 70 Duster 318 auto, L6XW black and white bucket seats, Limelight paint, light package, console, buckets, back stripes, white vinyl top! VL29 is a Valiant Low Line sport coupe. Y05 is build to USA specs and G36 racing mirrors, AM radio, M21 is a trim code. That is just off the top of my head...

That would be an awesome looking car. Lime green with white interior. I never saw another besides this one.

Thanks guys. Hate to see the pics of the destroyed Duster. The more I look into this car the more rare the color options appear to be. Is there any way to find out how many lime light green dusters with white vinyl tops and white interiors were produced? If you search Google Images for "green 1970 dusters" there is not one true car that shows up. Seems to have been a rare combination. BTW this car now has a built 360 with 340 J code heads, 727 trans and a limited slip diff. It has the standard dashboard and I would really like to find a true 340 style dashboard with the round gauge cluster (and tach if I can find one).

THIS POST IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICTURES!! :poke:
Seriously, it sounds like a great project. What kind of shape is it in?
Also make sure you look it over to see if you can verify that the fender tag matches VIN and other body numbers. The screws holding the fender tag don't look correct.

The fender tag does indeed match the VIN. The car is not in it's original color but it is in very good shape and runs well. Here are a few pics. The blacked out bumpers are not my style but I am eventually thinking about taking it back to the original color, and replacing the bumpers with chrome bumpers. There are a few obscure places where you see the original Lime Light green color. The previous owner installed a new reproduction 71 grill on it.

NICE! Looks pretty solid. Too bad about the repaint. Hopefully there isn't a bunch of bondo under that shiny red paint. Yeah, everyone loves adding the Sharkstooth grill to their 70-72 Dusters. Does the core support numbers match up too?

Yeah, the original colors would be sharp! I have had my fill of red Dusters, picture was from 1987...

I noticed the 71 gull wing is on Backwards.

Good catch on the reversed gull wing! That will be one of the first things I change. It is being delivered today so I will check the core support numbers. Thanks again for everyone's help.
