OK a newbie question here I hope I'm in the right section. I have a 65 Valiant and just wanna check the gear oil in the rear end. Exactly what too, is needed? It looks like a large star socket but is also very close to fitting a 1/2 inch drive in there ?

Thanks :toothy5:

1/2 inch drive ratchet. fill it until it seeps out of the hole. i would just pull the cover off and drain whats in there and fill it with fresh 90 weight

Xs 2 on the 1/2 in drive. If it is very tight and won't go in easy, would suggest small 1/2" extension and tap it in gently with a hammer to seat it. Agree that given the age of these vehicles and the fact most of us don't know when or if ever the oil was changed you should also remove the cover and clean out well and put in new oil. If a posi you will need additive. Good luck!

Not anywhere near as bad as the old original Sperm Whale oil crap that went into the sure-grips!!!!

And that not near as bad as the mexican gear oil ford used.

That crap would stain anything it touched yellow and smelled like a nasty case of BO.
