Finally hit the track with my sons new engine

No worries man. Those specs are very close to what I was thinking were being used. Standard port location small blocks tend to work well with the 4-5 degrees split 260-270 @0.050 range without needing to spin it past 7000 rpm. Considering the combination works very well it helps to justify the case along with all the other details of course. Out of curiosity what are the cam specs for the 422 in your car?

Its a solid lifter cam

630 intake
652 exhaust
duration @ .050 In: 271---- @.020---291
duration @ .050 Ex: 279----@ .020---305
intake lobe .420
Exhaust lobe .435
110 centerline in at 106

Hey John,

Any Updates? Have you flowed the port yet?
I'm curious as I'm currently having mine done.

No I’m really in kind of a winter funk right now. A guy I sold a shortblock to has been wanting a set of heads I have on a shelf from off my car and I’m not even sure I want to sell them. I would have to freshen the valve job and reflow them. Man I hate winter and honestly I don’t enjoy working on engines like I used to. It’s heck getting old.

So now that winter is over.... are you guys still making passes with the black dusters?!

Yes sir. This was from today. Matt took third in a 5000.00 to win race today. The track photographer took this cool picture of us both during our time trial.

Hot muggy three day race weekend and he ran a nice string of 6.57-6.60 all day. My sidewalls on my slicks are shot and I have been slowed to the 6.10 area all weekend. New tires will be going on this week. Not sure I will even race tomorrow as they are predicting 90 degree temps.

Thanks guys. It’s great that after 44 years of this stuff I still enjoy it and can share time with my son. I hope to get out and do some bass fishing with him during the week

Just picked this up, got some work to do but mostly cosmetics. Ordered an exhaust manifold gasket for it. I'l replace water pump too. Hope to put in the water this week.
Surrounded by water here and with grandbabies, looking fwd to making memories.

I keep sending my little brother your updates. He thinks a 4in stroke motor is the ONLY way to go.... So the youtube videos and these pics are changing his mind now! LOL

I always say, do the best with what ya got. Know your material, it’s strong points and it’s weak points, proceed accordingly by exploiting what you can the best you can.

A 4 inch arm is added torque. It’s not a bad line of thinking.

My Son Matt ended up taking second last week and the track photographer caught a pretty neat picture of his car. He shared it on Facebook tonight for him.
