First EVER run

-
i have not yet measured fuel economy. i had a 72 w/3.23s and it got 18mpg on the hiway. so, i'm guessing it won't be as good as that.

so, if you reference the earlier posted build high 14s should be attainable w/o any drastic changes? i guess i will find a sure grip and try again.

There is an alternative to expensive early-A headers, and that is Spitfire Headers. They are $230 including shipping to your door. I bought a set for my 1964 Valiant. Heres a pic. Mike

Any idea what a stock /6 would run?

It could vary greatly. Depends on the weight of the car, and whether it is bone stock, or NHRA "legal" stock. Bone stock could be anywhere from 22 secs to 18 secs. I just took my "new" 66 Valiant low buck drag car (not stock)to the track. Went a 15.66 at 81.58 mph on the first pass. By the second day with tuning ran a best of 15.007 at 85.36 mph. Then made a nitrous pass at 13.92, 91.91 mph. Still have more tuning to go. Actually looking for high 12's. Have about $1500 in the project, including buying the car.
PS this is a 225 slant six, stock short block, except for cam. No machining on the engine at all.

Wow Charrlie. That is really impressive. Mike :headbang:

I did this project to prove, you don't have to have a V-8, or a lot of money, to build a car and have fun. It was built with E-bay, swap meet, junk yard parts, and some things I had on the shelf. Here is a link to the build up.

hey charlie;

how streetable would that build be? the only part that kinda' makes me think twice is the 9" convertor.

you r faster than my 318 right out of the box and i did a lot of work. hats off your /6. my interest is peaked.

Actually the drive train is VERY streetable. The engine will idle at 800 rpm, and the converter will WOT stall about 4,000, but it will still work on the street. That same converter had a 3,000 stall behind my 170 motor, so this motor has a lot more torque. The 3.91 gear is ok for street use, with a 26-28 inch tall tire. I run a 22 inch slick, which gears it down lower at the track. There is still the ability to run a bigger cam and more compression. Also head work (porting, big valves). This was built on the premiss of low dollars, upfront and then upgrades later on. The way most of us, on a budget, have to build a car. One major thing to remember is, the car only weighs 2680 lbs, with me in it. My 66 Cuda weighs 3250 with driver. So everything else equal, the valiant would be at least a half second quicker in the quarter. The Car itself is not streetable. All strett equipment except for tail lights, and glass has been removed.

If we continue this discussion, we should strat another thread. For more slant six info, go to www.slantsix.org
