Fixing my belt routing

Yep, that's what I said about a week ago...

I'm writting this just because "I" did a few (Quote's) in this thread.

I agree Ace, you did explain that "if" he had a compressor his belts and pully's would" line up! (and I could'nt agree more with your statement). The only point/s I was trying to get across in this thread was for him to try and line up everything one way or another by giving him different "suggestions". Yes, some of mine may suck, I'm no a auto mech. The dude has extra parts so I feel there's no reason for him not to try different things with different idea's/suggestions. If you look anywhere on this thread "I" personnally never said you were wrong. Ace, I feel your suggestions and points are as good as the next guys. Maybe it's just me, but your above comment "again" sounds like your a little pee'd off because the young guy just didn't "only" listen to you.

However Ace, if it would make you feel a little better, I'll speak for some and be the first to say; Yes everyone, we should have listened to only Ace. He told "us" so, a week ago! :notworth:

You have to be careful when communicating with written words only, and I am as guilty as the next guy about not doing it well enough. I have no idea what 66dart's (or anyone else's, for that matter) age, experience or mechanical aptitude is.

So, if he had given up and posted this problem here, it is safe to assume he was looking for answers and suggestions. The simple answer was to say exactly why it was the way it was and let him figure it out for himself from there. Once you are ready to start installing custom mods it's all out the window and don't matter if you're cutting, welding or literally making your own parts from scratch. But I think you guys had him looking at your pictures scratching his head wondering what was wrong, maybe even trying to re-mount the alternator the wrong way on his AC bracket. Who knows?

I'm finished with this thread. But you can bet your bottom dollar if I see anyone giving what appears to me to be bad advice or leading some newbie down the garden path I will call it the way I see it. Sorry 'bout that...

Correcting bad advice is one thing. Attacking another member of this site by saying that he probably didn't install the alternator bracket himself it another thing entirely. You can still call it as you see it just ease up a little. We're all friends here right?

Im not sure what year engine/body style you are working on - but the set up you are trying to use looks like a 72/73 vintage set of pulleys. The problems with getting this junk to line up is if you are using a mis-matched set of parts or brackets. Having said this - You should run two belts on this kind of set up. One belt goes around the fan crank and alternator. The other belt is short and runs from the crank to the power steering pump. If your brackets dont line up then you need to adjust the spacers used on the alternator bracket and or power steering pump. If you are in a rush buy a bunch of 3/8 flat washers, (I like to use 5/16" cause they fit tighter) and mock it up. You can then adjust by removing or adding washers to get close enough for it to run. Later you can get some 1/4 " steel (NPT) schedule 40 and cut spacers to match your washer set up and replace them. This can be a frustrating experience, but with some patience it will end up being okay and work fine.

Good luck with it.
