I'm going to be working in Seattle the week of 7/22-7/26 and I've extended my stay till 7/30 so my wife and I could visit the area some. We've stayed in Seattle before (almost transferred) but we want to venture out a little further. Was thinking of maybe heading down towards Portland to check things out (follow the coast 107, 105 101, 4, 30, 5?) or catch the train (free but will not have car then). Asking advice to see what would be the best use of our time (and I think car shows is not one of her options). Thanks.

How about the Lemay Auto Museum in Tacoma. Harold had one heck of a collection. The Museum of Flight on East Marginal Way along Boeing Field is pretty cool for aircraft. Just a couple of things to look at. Way lots more to see.

I lived in Bremerton and Everett from late 95 to early 2001. If you are into music, the Experience Music Project is pretty cool. I hear, anyway. I never made it there. The only time I ever drove to Portland, I took 5 as it was the most direct route, but not that much scenery. And lots of traffic, depending on the day and the time of day. Traffic is really rough around Tacoma during the rush hours, usually. Well, it was 12 years ago, anyway.

If you look around Seattle, there are a lot of things for couples to do, from museums, tours, and just sight-seeing. Just to name a few, you can check out Pike Place Market (http://pikeplacemarket.org), ride the ducks (http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com), tour the Seattle Underground (http://www.undergroundtour.com), or visit the Seattle Aquarium (http://www.seattleaquarium.org) or the Pacific Science Center (http://www.pacificsciencecenter.org)

Check out this link: http://www.seattleattractions.com/what-to-do/ . It lists quite a few things to do in and around Seattle. I'm not that familiar with Portland, as I only visited it over a weekend and I'm not sure what all there is to do. Good luck, and enjoy your stay! I love it up there!

Also if around the Portland area head for Astoria. Fort Astoia is pretty cool. South East of Portland about 60 miles is Sandy Oregon thats where Widcats is, all Mopar salvage.

Astoria is also where they filmed The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop.

Well seems none mentioned, Mt Rainier, Mt Hood. In Portland area The Gorge, Multnomah Falls and all the other falls around there. The Oregon Coast is awesome (Kicks OC's Md butt) Oregon Wineries on way to/ from coast. Also Great Micro Breweries all over Seattle and Portland. If you feel really up to it Smith Redwoods in So. Oregon. Oregon Dunes. Nice Casino's in Both Area's. I could go on and on... Space Needle, Ferry ride across the sound. Camping forever if she's into that. Lot of Islands to visit. Hell I didn't even mention cars once lol...

Traffic in Seattle area sucks similar to Balt/Wash beltways, but with limited arteries.

screw I-5, turn right at Olympia and find your way to the coast. It's only nice in the summer and is worth the extra miles. Take the coast highway south, you won't regret it.
Some great suggestions before me but you can't see this beautiful area of the country in one visit.

Was working in LA and SD in April and Oakland SF last month and got to drive the coastal highway then. West coast and east coast are completely different. Was thinking of taking coast drive to Portland and sightsee. Spent a couple of weeks in Seattle couple of years ago so we've seen most what's offered there. Looking for some new stuff away from Seattle. I've heard about the Lemay collection so might be able to convince her on that one. She is a trooper, I manage to drag her to baseball games everytime we're in a new city with a team.
