I found a 318 small block that I may potentially restore. It has some numbers I am unable to find in the Mopar catalog and am hoping someone on here can provide some more info if possible! California car, posting pictures below as well.

Driver side block: 414230-318-14 (block is painted blue)
Exhaust manifold: 4227637 (may be 4227837?)
Intake Manifold: 4173915 2
Sticker on valve cover: 4210 038

302/714 heads, but they're usually factory black..maybe bot always. Definitely a late block.. as in..head bolts go into water jackets

Your casting number is 4104230, that is a run of the mill early 80s 318. Nothing special, and when you pull the heads dont be suprised if the head bolt holes are not cracked to the water jackets. I generally scrap those blocks, if you want to build a 318, try to find a earlier block, 67-74 or just go right to the magnum 5.2. Both are superior.

This is GREAT info. I was being sold on having a special "race" edition 318 because of the -14 at the end. THANK YOU.

I'm another vote for the 5.2 Magnum....

They didn't make high performance 318s except some kind of cop car Edition in the late seventies early '80s with 360 heads and 360 intake on it from the factory and they were smog motors...you want a 1968 318-3 steel crank truck engine

I'm on the lookout! Thought I found some special 318 today and glad I came here instead of handing over cash. Maybe I just need to go big block instead...

That's because that's the same casting number used on the early "X" blocks. However, its really easy to see that's not a race block. It's funny you mention that, for years I have seen guys try to sell those blocks as "race blocks" because of that very reason.

Just found a 340 block (non t/a) within my area for a decent price and thinking about jumping on it! Stamped 6.19.68 which I believe is a good year???

block: 2780930-340-8

For a standard bore 340 block with main caps, a decent price anymore would be $1K or less.

that’s basically exact price for the block I’m going to look at this week, although unsure of main caps.

plan is to strike this 340 and drop it into a 72 dart!
