Hello FABO, i have a carter 4611S that i would like to use on my 340 build but its frozen/stuck/seized not sure whatcha call it.
Does anybody have a tried and true method to unstick this carb, i would like to soak it, any concoctions that have worked for you without destroying the finish.
please dont recommend a new carb, this is the one i want to use..thanks

The outer finish may be an issue

one member used CLR.

For stuck stuff, I've used penetrating oil and a hot plate

How bad does it look? Or does it look normal?

What worked for me is to soak it in new ATF above the throttle plates. Do not work with used fluid. And just wait 2-3 months. Try to move it back and forth with normal pressure, one day it will very slightly move. Now move it daily, don't force it, be gentle, and a week later it will be free.

ATF is high detergent and it will work, done 7 of them.

Ultrasonic Cleaner

Take it apart and put it in for 15 minute intervals. Distilled water and a few drops of Dawn Dishsoap for starters.

Pine Sol and distilled water will clean it, but you have to be careful cause it will turn aluminum gray in the Ultrasonic when it's too strong or you leave it in too long.

Some Edelbrocks have the shiny chrome looking finish, those clean up in the Ultrasonic real easy.

Other bare aluminum carbs have to be very careful with. Some manual labor with picks and fine wire brushes is advisable along with short bursts in the Ultrasonic tub.

Hot water in the Ultrasonic tub too.

Warm up the shaft area with a heat gun, one shaft at a time [ to expand the alum, create a gap ]. Dribble some ATF over the shaft. Twist the shaft gently. Be gentle or you will twist the shaft & t/blades will be out of sync.

Another method. Scribe lines on the t/blades each side of the shafts for final positioning; mark blade position.

Blade screws are staked. Grind off the staking so that screws can be removed [ failure to remove staking will likely result in broken screws....]

Heat up alum with heat gun & dribble ATF over shafts. With blades removed, shafts will have some endplay. Tap end of shaft gently until you get movement. Repeat above until shafts are looose.

You can re-use the screws, use Loctite to secure.

Don't mess around with throttle blades, leave them alone.
Soak and wait, yes warm it up some is good, the carb and the pan of ATF. But not a torch.
