I am putting my car back together and my build has been geared for a street car with a few weekends a year drag racing. I am at the point where I need to run my brake lines. My 66 Dart with automatic trans is being converted from an all drum brake car to a front disc car. All old lines were removed and now I am installing the new lines. I have the 73 duster disc setup with the same year proportioning valve. I have made and installed the lines to a line lock and down to the proportioning valve which I mounted on the inside of the frame rail just below the drivers floor. Its time to make the line for the passenger side from the valve. Ive been reading about some drag tracks having issues about the line when its run in its factory location due to the possibility of flywheel/converter problems, So I thought its time to reroute this line now. Ive read about some moving it to run in front of the K-frame. With the headers on mine and the distance it would be I am thinking about running it from the proportioning valve back behind the torsion bar then following the crossmember to the other side. I could take it above the trans tailshaft so if the trans needed remove I wouldnt have to remove the brake line. It just looks like it would be easier to go back that way then up around the K-frame with the header interference. So what are your thoughts? Is this something that anyone else has done and is there any reason I shouldnt run it back there?
Thanks
Rod

Bob, its actually about 2 ft shorter than going up and over the k-frame. My real concern was if anyone has done it that way and if it was OK for tech inspection.

I ran mine back the left frame rail rail, Then across the tunnel support at the trans crossmember, Then back up the right rail. Took 9 feet of tube. Worked well. All that just get a totally shaved firewall.

Mopar Al, have you ever raced your car and if so did tech have any issues with the line up in the trans tunnel?
Thanks Rod

I still haven't run the brake line to the right front brake. As I look at options I am now wondering if a better choice would be to run it thru the firewàll since the dash is removed. Both previous options (running up around k-frame and back or over trans tail shaft seem like the bends would be to much. I am just not sure what to do. Anyone have any pics of whàt you hàve done? Hàs ànyone run the line inside of firewall up under dash?
Thanks Rod

you're suppose to have a flexplate shield on the trans so why would there be a problem with running the steel brake line in the stock location? you can have a fuel line in the same area if it's steel braided or in a steel tube so I don't really see the problem. the ring gear/flexplate sits behind the firewall where the brake line runs by an inch or so in our a-bodies anyway. i'd be more concerned about the trans blowing up and using a trans blanket to protect the toes. using the front to go across the K member use a certified balancer not the stock one that might come apart and cut the line. do what ever you think is appropriate to get your hotrod through tech.
