Fuel Line Mod Concerns

I got around to doing it and I'm happy with the results. However, I am concerned with the risk of heat from the valve cover getting to the line and potentially melting the hose. Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep it from resting atop the cover? Or is there nothing to worry about?

If you're concerned about your fuel line being overheated, you can make a standoff bracket, or you could put a chafe/heat protective wrap on it...
 
as I remember this "mod" involves removing a metal line and replacing with rubber hose? Sorry no way. Thats too much length of rubber for gas to run thru.
If I did anything close to this, I might run rubber hose over a steel line for insulation and/or protection..... or as a very temporary thing "just to get something going" until I could fix it right.... too easy for that rubber line to get cut, pinched, burnt etc.....

Unless it's Chinese hose formed out of gum drops, You're good, sleep well. If it is rubbing, slide loom or other protective sleeving to protect it, that is all.
 
I handled mine differently. I left the fuel line in the stock location and just worked on getting the engine heat down. Narry a problem even in the Georgia heat idling for long periods in traffic.
 
After wrapping my OEM fuel line in rags drenched with water to get the car home the first summer I had the car, I did the @slantsixdan fuel line conversion.

The sleeve over the fuel line routed over the valve cover is heat resistant. It's working as advertised.

What keeps you up at night worse:

A) A fuel hose running overtop a not-very-hot valve cover

B) The close proximity of the stock metal fuel line, the fuel filter, and the clamped-hose connections to the extremely hot exhaust manifold

The correct answer here is (B). If you follow the prescription and use SAE J30R9 fuel injection hose and matching fuel injection hose clamps (not just any ol' black tubular rubber thing and any ol' clamps) then the upgrade is at least as safe as the original setup; easy to argue it's safer, and that's plus the operational benefits.

That woven-silica sleeve shown by Duggie is a further upgrade/additional level of redundant protection.
 
There's more than one way to skin a cat. I tell the neighbor cat that once or twice a week when chasing it out from around the wife's bird feeders.

My honey has PTSD over the "reliability issues" of the '64 Dart /6 she had in her 20s. Before she would agree to drive this Dart from Tacoma to LA along Hwy101 and 1, I had to prove the temp needle wouldn't move while climbing the I-90 Cascade Mtn pass. Twice cause once could have been luck...

I usually figure the factory engineers did their due diligence when they designed the car. That and if it is still there 58 years after it rolled off the showroom floor, it will be good for us for another couple decades. But as the saying goes, "If Honey isn't happy, 'aint nobody happy." That's why I did the fuel line mod after vapor locking on I-5 outside of Seattle. Oh and disconnect the temp gauge.:D
