i have a 72 demon with a 340 and i just replaced the intake and the carb on it and now my fuel pump...mechanical...started leaking at the top of the round seal any ideas why this would happen. i put an eddy air gap and an eddy 750 and fired it up and like i said the fuel pump...i believe to be stock..started pouring fuel everywhere tightened the fuel lines back up because i had to buy a longer fuel hose for the carb. plz help

Might try replacing it. It could be its 40 years old

It's a common age thing, and it will have to be replaced.
Leaking diaphram.

Thanks so do I really need to buy a high dollar one or is the one from oreileys
for 17.00 a good one

Just replace it. Either way is fine just pick your poison.

Or what would it take to put an external one on it

Electrics are nice because you always instantly have fuel to the carb (Especially if you run out)
They cost more and you have to wire them in to your electrical system.
Mine is right under the passengers side floor mounted to the subframe connector, but some prefer to have them back at the tank.

The 17 dollar replacement will work fine also.

I would also check for gas in your oil. May need an oil and filter change..
