Is there a formula to determine the correct fuel pump, line, and sending unit per application?

I'm building a 470 Indy EZ headed BB roller street car motor and wanted to use a mechanical fuel pump. I need to know if its better to run eletrical and block off the mechnical spot on the block of will the mechanical work? I estimate the motor will produce 625-675 crank hp, with 950 QF carb.

I was thinking of using 1/2 or 3/8 sending unit and mechnical fuel pump, but next year if I can find some $$$ to add 150 shot NOS. The car will be pump gas streetable and running 9's with juice, low 10's N/a:burnout:.

Bob for a $320 pump I might have to go electric. How many gpm will I need?

This is what Holley has posted to their web site:

Typically, at wide open throttle, full power, an engine requires 0.5 lbs. of fuel
per horsepower every hour. A gallon of gasoline weighs approximately 6 lbs.
Therefore an engine rated at 350 horsepower will require about 175 pounds
(29 gallons) of fuel every hour.
(350HP x .5 lbs = 175 lbs of fuel
175 lbs/6 lbs = 29 gallons per hour)Typically, at wide open throttle, full power, an engine requires 0.5 lbs. of fuel per horsepower every hour. A gallon of gasoline weighs approximately 6 lbs.

So if I have 700hp x .5lbs = 350lbs of fuel /6lbs fuel weight = 58.3gph at fill throttle.

I dont think a holley blue will support 700hp alone...

Help, cause I'm now completely confused :(

The short answer is - you built a monster - you have to feed it. You need a big pump, and lines that can support it.

My friend running a sprayed 4.6 4V runs 9s and he uses a 250gph pump with 1/2" in 3/8" out of the regulator...at least I'm pretty sure it's 250. I know it's a fuelab 41402

Im looking at either Holley Hly12-440-11 or Carter M4862, both are 3/8 in and out and over 110gph.

I'm running a 10.75 to 1 470" with Stealth heads, 550-600 hp.
I have a 1/2" pick up with -10 line feeding a Race Pumps fuel pump.
From the pump I have a -8 line feeding a Race Pumps regulator.
From the regulator I have -6 line feeding 2 Holley 600's on a tunnel ram.
Be sure you run a -4 return from the regulator back to the tank and vent the tank properly.
It's completely bulletproof and you will be able to add a fuel feed for the nitrous off of the regulator later if you want to.
Money well spent.
