I got a new fuel sender delivered on Friday but had a some trouble getting it installed.

1. Does the gasket go behind the lock ring, or behind the sender against the tank. (The old one didn't have a gasket)

2. I can't seem to line up the sender tabs with the two tabs on the fuel tank opening. The bottom one goes in, but the top tab is either too wide or not quite in the same spot as factory.

I was thinking about bending the top one down so it clears. Will this affect anything?

See pics for reference. Thanks for the help.

It goes, gasket, sending unit, lock ring...

I had to try to get my lock ring in a few times also, as it kept getting off center and the one lock tab wasn't engaging... It took me about 3-4 tries to get it engaged and centered enough to engage all three "tangs"...

The current aftermarked lock rings do not engage the sending unit and seal enough to seal. It's best to reuse your old lock ring or buy one from halifaxhops. He picked up a few NOS rings and is selling them to who needs them...

Much appreciated on the gasket question. I am re using my old lock ring, due to reading that before.

My issue is actually arising from the two tabs on the sending unit. (See pic) They apparently engage the two openings on the front of the tank. (see pic) My guess is to center the sender. I can't get them both engaged so that the sender sits flush against the tank.

The two "tangs" that you are talking about are to position the end of the pick-up at the proper location in the tank (so you don't rotate the end up to a higher position). You have to get the sending unit almost in, then line up the tangs in the unit to the holes in the tank. If they do not fit, then I would bent the tabs so that it goes in the tank properly. The tangs are used to clock the sending unit...

That is what I was afraid of.

The bottom one seems to go in fine, but the top one I can't get quite right. It is hard to tell why though. It may just be positioned weird on the sender. I know if I drop the tank it will be easier to see, but I really don't want to. :banghead:
