Can sommeone tell me how to test a Fuel sending unit when it is out of the tank and on my work bench. The one I have reads full all the time and when I run out of gas I know it Ain't full no more. Thanks in advance. Steve

I don't know... Mine reads empty, and when I run out of gas (like this morning on the way to school) I know it IS!
Anyone else?

Connect one ohmmeter lead to the electrical connector and the other lead to the mounting flange. Move the float slowly and the resistance should change smoothly from about 10 ohms in the full up position to 73 full down. I have one car without a gauge (fuel cell) and I keep a log book of miles driven and fill up regularly,it keeps me from running out of gas. The only time you can have too much gas is when your on fire.

If you get the proper resistance with your ohmmeter then the sending unit is good. When you reinstall it be sure to use the proper grounding strap and secure it correctly.
