Don't think I trust it locking securely in case you run over something and it catches the tab.

Do you change your oil that frequently? I have seen this type

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Fram-SD2-SureDrain-Access-Change/dp/B000AMW0JW/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top/188-3521910-2529331"]Fram SD2 SureDrain Fast Access Oil Change Drain Plug System : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

and something like this one

But usually these are used to prevent further damage to an already stripped oil pan. I personally just use a normal 6 inch wrench and tighten by hand. Use a drain plug with built in rubber washer or use a replaceable soft metal washer and you shouldn't have problems with leaks.

I was at first for my wife's daily driver that sits low. Thought it would be easier to reach under it and flick the tab then use car ramps and use a wrench.

sometimes easy isnt the right way changing oil imho is one of the most gratifying/easy/preventive thing u could do stick with stock u gotta think they thought of this in 66 an said ehhh bad idea

Not necessarily. If they thought of it in '66, they probably thought "ehhh, it will cost an extra $ per car." Or, "how many morons will leave it open and blame the failed engine on us".

The biggest motivator for factory production is cost. Why do you think the drain plug on auto transmissions went away? It wasn't because you don't need to change the transmission fluid. Just because the factory didn't do it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, or that it won't be better the other way.

I've seen the Fumoto valves before, looks like a neat idea. For me, I've just never thought the convenience is worth the cost, the normal drain plug isn't that inconvenient to me. But if it keeps you from jacking up a lowered car all the time, it might be worth it to you.

As far as the tab getting caught on something, I don't think it'd be all that likely. How often to you hit things in the road with your oil pan?

I would have to see a valve in my hand before I would consider running it. I don't care for the inner snap on the top side of the valve that is in the picture. If that was to come out I would think your oil would too.

This cutaway picture looks good.

My wife's daily driver is a Hyundai....I wouldn't put that plug on my '66.
Your right how many times does an oil pan ever hit the ground??? Probably never! My concern is driving over a tree branch or some other type of roadway debris that would strike the lever/tab release. How many times a year are you forced to drive over something because swerving out of the way isn't an option? If you drive 18K - 20K a year probably a few times.

they work great. i've put them on everything i've owned for years. i don't have show cars or nice weather only cars. mine get driven everyday so the oil gets changed 2 or 3 times a year.
if you haven't tryed one of these, don't knock it. that lever is not going to come loose and dump your oil. the first time you try this, and don't have to mess with trying not to drop a hot plug (gloves or not), while not douching you hand with oil you'll be happy.

I have used the Fram for years on several vehicles and never had a problem.

Where do you find them ? OOPS didn't scroll to the top........

the Fumoto valves come standard on my Komatsu trackhoes and they work great. I work in stumps, trees, brush and mud and haven't had one malfunction in over 10,000 hrs so I doubt you have anything to worry about on a driver, Joe

Dang, how lazy do you have to be ?
We're talking about a bolt. Unscrew it,and the oil drains.
Seems pretty simple to me.

not about lazy, if it was i'd be taking the car to jiffyscrewed.
it's like using a ratchet instead of a box wrench, it's about convenience
