Gas leak at sending unit

That's where I got mine too. Redfish is right save the old lock ring and use it. I may not have had any issues if I had. I misplaced mine between the time I dropped the tank and refinished it and put it back in.
 
I bought the 1/2 from mancini the sending unit look like
china stuff but it does the job

the float was in brass after a few week the car gage alwais kept
showing 1/2 full tank and the tank was full so I took the sending
unit out and the float was maybe 1/4 full of gas so...
