Gas Price Rant

All in all, it's just the oil companies getting what they can get out of it.
It pisses me off when they report "Record Profits" since it seems so IN MY FACE that one of the reasons was me forced to pay too damn much for gas.

They sell a HUGE amount of the stuff. What bothers me (and the fact that the media won't put a # on it) is how much the government makes off it. The oil companies make about $0.05 per gallon. The government makes about $0.47 per gallon.

Yeah MVR we get a check...but we pay more for everything up here...woo hoo,,,what a trade off. Dont matter now, im leaving for my homestead in Missouri in 2 weeks. Good bye Alaska , its been a cold 41 years...LOL

quote: and the ***worst*** part is the guys workin in the canadian oil fields are probably natives and getting paid crap wages so some slick fellas can drive around in beemers drinkin champagne

Sorry Wrong, I worked in the Canadian oil/gas fields as a tradesman for 35 yrs and my wages over the first 25 yrs approached 6 figures and for the last 10 of those years was over 6 figures. The guys, engineers, working behind the desks and driving the beemers, averaged between 50K to 70K. The engineers were always pissed off at us and very few "natives" work in the oilfields when you look at the entire oil worker population. The reasons why I wont get into but coming to work everyday ie. commitment has a lot to do with it.

Welcome back to the lower 48.

Yeah, these gas prices are way outta control.

But it's nobody's fault... That the oil companies keep getting richer and richer... But it's the Arabs that keep charging more for a barrell of oil....

They are all laughing to the bank at our expense.

It's $1.69 for premium unleaded here in west OZ,i reckon you guys are lucky at your prices. We've got enough oil fields over here to produce fuel for us,but they use the world oil price to set the pump prices.

I am always amazed how so many self-declared "conservatives" start talking like communists when it comes to gasoline supply and prices. Terms like "our gas", "we export it", "we should drill more". Who are these "us" and "we"? Do you think the federal government determines how private companies buy and sell products on the world market, or do you think they should? Do you expect the government to get into the oil drilling business? Do you think allowing drilling on all U.S. lands, and thus increasing world supply maybe 2% will lower world gas prices? Should the government effectively subsidize oil prices like they did in the 1960's and 70's thru taxes? And most scary, do you expect the government to release our strategic petroleum reserves that are meant for wartime needs to temporarily lower your gas price?

A true conservative takes responsibility for their own actions. If you buy an A-body with a slant six engine, install a 440 with mega-thumper cam that idles like *** with gross pollution, don't whine that you get poor mileage and somebody should subsidize the problem you made for yourself. Just a thought.

Ok so this is the answer: Chevy built the VOLT right??? It's the answer to OUR supposed needs,It costs Chevy $60,000 a car to build,We pay $40,000 for the car,Where does the other $20,000 come from???????????? Anyone want to guess????? Government that's right it comes from a broken government--Now that's a slap in our faces!!!!!

I'm a H.v.a.c. Contractor don't EVEN get me started on SOLAR and GEO-THERMAL --WHAT A JOKE THEY ARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speculators??? not so fast...

Mr O said early on, we need gas prices higher in order to promote alternative energy.

Mr O's energy minister (Chu) said in the past 8 dollar gas like Europe would be good, and recently said the administration is content with high gas prices. Then a few days later did a phony backpedal.

Well Mr O got what he wanted. He could but will not rein in the speculators.

Face it, he is a far left idealogue imposing his will.

I went and put 20 bucks in the car last night and I only got a quarter tank. I looked and I didn't even get a full 5 gallons. It was something like 4.966. I paid $4.02 and it wasn't even premium. I have to downgrade to the mid level. This is just so upsetting. There was a time not too long ago that I could fill up for $20. I just don't understand why I have to work a half hour at minimum wage for a gallon of gas. Sorry thanks for listening!:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

No, the real slap in the face is the the Chevy Cruze ECO gets better mileage than a Volt and costs half as much.......

Chevy Cruze ECO
28city/42hwy
$19,325

Chevy Volt (when off it's very limited electric range)
35city/40hwy
$39,145

Which one would you buy?

My son bought a Chevy Cruze Eco last year, on my recommendation. Too bad Mopar has nothing comparable. It is fairly spacious inside, 40 mpg hwy, reasonable price. Chevy sold 1M worldwide. Who says the U.S. can't compete? I am glad the Feds saved them. Trust free markets and the government you voted for (or at least who the majority did). Trust in our youth. We don't need to regress, which many presidential candidates appear to be suggesting. I read there are new non-hybrids in the pipeline that will get >45 mpg hwy.

Not to mention the higher electric bill you'll be paying to charge up that POS Volt every night. I guess the envrio-weenies forgot that electricity is generated from coal-fired plants. So much for being "green". Dumb ***** don't realize perpetual motion is a myth.

And another thing, dammit :D when gas prices approached $4 under the Bush Administration, the left-wing asshats said Bush did it to help his oil buddies, and that high fuel prices are bad for everything. Now that the shoe is on the other muslim foot, high gas prices are seemingly GOOD for the economy! Yes, they said that on the news. It was a left-wing news media that reported it.

You want socialism? You want to surrender your freedom FOREVER? Vote for him again in 2012. You'll be screwing yourself, your kids, your grandkids and their kids. Already, since he's been in office, he's spent as much money as every past president from George Washington through the Clinton administration.....COMBINED.

Voting this asshat out of office is no joke. If he wins again, the USA will NEVER be the same as it was. His mistakes and poor judgement (Were they intentional? I don't know.) will become irreversible.

George

Good job you guys have to pay british pricess for gas our works out to about $12 a gallon !!!!!! the goverment get about half of that in duties and taxes wish I lived in the US

yah gas probably will go down like everyone can go out and buy a chevy volt anyway to the economy.he needs to think on that one.
Looked at a Chevy Volt last week & the Sticker was over $44k. $44K buys a lot of fuel. I'll stick to my 2.0 liter Jetta. But Yeah it's ridiculous How high the fuel prices are getting. I can't imagine having to commute to work every day.
