Getting a more muscle sound out of a 6

6'es are supposed to sound like a 6. 8's are supposed to sound like an 8.

And yes, there is a difference in tone between an inline and a V

The song "In the Summertime" by Mongo Jerry came out about 1970 or so. There is a break about half way through where they inserted an engine sound. At the time, to me it sounded like they recorded a slant six and used it. I still think that whenever I hear it.
Of course he was British so it was probably some lowly 50 HP British Leyland tin can.

*******

V-8 sound? I fantasize about doing the exact opposite. Put a 6.4 liter 485 HP crate engine in my 64 Valiant and make it sound like a slanty.

Then when I'm sitting at a traffic light with the top down......and an SUV pulls up beside me with the driver looking down at me all exposed in the bright sunlight.....and he asks "Is that a slant six?.....i can say "Yeah it is!".....when the light turns green I'd zoom off leaving 2 black streaks a quarter mile long amidst a cloud of Kumbo smoke.....He'd say to his wife "Yeah, those slants were GREAT engines! Couldn't kill em."
